Qatar & The Arab States: Birth Pangs Of An Eventual Middle East Conflict

in #news7 years ago

Opposition To Qatar Terrorist Connection:

The Middle East's most powerful states have banded together to isolate Qatar over serious concerns that the tiny Persian gulf peninsula has been supporting IS along with extremist Iran over the past several years. This nation, though small, has state reserves of over $300 billion, mostly from is exports of liquefied natural gas, of which its neighbor's are highly dependent. These five nations, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, Bahrain, the eastern Libya regime, the Maldives, and Yemen have completely severed ties with Qatar in a move to cripple the nation. All air traffic, exports, and diplomacy has been suspended to the country.

Arab Nation's Motive:

These five nations are highly adverse to the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamic political foe who has gained a foothold in the region. Though these Arab powers are dependent on Qatar's exports of natural gas, they are highly wary of the nation's dealings with radical Islam and have countered with complete shutting down of diplomatic ties altogether.

In a very recent news report, Egypt, the Arab world's most populous nation, said that Qatar's policy "threatens Arab national security and sows the seeds of strife and division within Arab societies according to a deliberate plan aimed at the unity and interests of the Arab nation."

In cutting relations, Saudi Arabia accused Qatar of backing militant groups and broadcasting their ideology, an apparent reference to Qatar's influential state-owned satellite channel Al Jazeera.

"(Qatar) embraces multiple terrorist and sectarian groups aimed at disturbing stability in the region, including the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS (Islamic State) and al-Qaeda," Saudi state news agency SPA said.

Causes and Repercussions:

President Trump's recent visit to the region highlighted his stance on Arab politics; namely, extremist nuclear-armed Iran and IS. These Arab powers are most likely exhibiting their own strength and showing the world they are not tolerant of radical Islam in the region. This move is highly contingent on increased desire for trade and support from the US under the new administration.

These events will most assuredly affect the global natural gas and oil industry, just as OPEC's plans were about to go through. Qatar's exclusion has already been seen in the global economy to a small degree. This along with IS events in Syria, tensions between the Assad regime, Russia, and the US, & the continuing battle in Iraq are just the beginning of an impending conflict that will engulf the entire Middle East in war.

Stay vigilant about these events and stay tuned for more.
