Reporters invited to visit a Chinese army base in Hong Kong received a list of banned items, including things like pen, lipstick, eye drops and contraception.

Reuters said the material and other "strange things" were on a banned list that the guests were not allowed to carry during a tour of a Chinese army base on Friday as part of events commemorating the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to rule China.

Security officials have not given up on inviting invited guests to inspect life in the barracks at the base of Chung Kong, which lies under the foot of Mount Tai Shan, the highest mountain in Hong Kong, according to the agency.

The taboo also includes umbrellas, which were a symbol of protests calling for democracy in 2014, but the al-Qaeda authorities offered visitors alternatives. Security officials also confiscated pen and taxi bills, a fourth-generation Internet connection, some water, mints and palliative tablets from Reuters reporters.

Before the visit, correspondents received a list of contraventions that also included heroin, marijuana, sunscreen and cosmetics.

Guests visiting the base at temperatures higher than 30 degrees Celsius saw a military parade involving Z-8 helicopters, trucks carrying air defense missiles and armored vehicles as military bands played.

Chinese soldiers gave gifts to guests, including bags with camouflage caps, flags, water, biscuits and cake.

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in a procession, inspecting 20 troop secretions and more than 100 military pieces, while the echoes of the music were high.
