A pair of British currency traders specializing in virtual currencies was forced at gunpoint to transfer their bitcoins, in what the British press presented on Monday as an unprecedented robbery in the country, reports AFP.

The robbery took place on January 22 in the town of Moulsford, in the south of England. According to the Daily Mail, four hooded individuals entered the home of Amy Jay, 31, and Danny Aston, 30, forcing the latter to make a transfer in bitcoins with his computer.

It is suspected that the robbers were aware that Aston was a virtual currency exchange operator because someone would have mentioned his reliability online using his real name, since he worked under anonymity.

The bitcoin is a virtual currency not regulated by any state or central bank that was worth only a few cents when it was created in February 2009 by several computer scientists who hid under the pseudonym of Satoshi Nakamoto. In December 2016 it reached its maximum of $ 19,511, although since then it has fallen below $ 10,000.
