The mmm mentality syndrome

in #nigeria7 years ago

MMM is back and lots of youths are throwing their money into it. This is after the heartbreak of the Yuletide and conservative estimate shows that over 10 billion Naira of Nigerians' money was lost in the scheme last year. Almost all the people I know who participated in that of last year are back this time, with some of them expressing hope that they will recover what they lost the last time.
Do you still wonder why someone, even some professors would agree that someone was offered oil blocs, offered five Southeastern States and other things just so he will stop doing what exactly? A terrible lot of people are tragically gullible. Get into the University, interact with our supposed eggheads and you will understand why things are this bad in this country.
Open a shop anywhere today, call it a church, stage manage some miracles, guess some usual things and call it a prophecy, and you may not be able to accommodate the crowd that will invade your church soon after.
MMM mentality is the laziness to think through theories before believing in them, the willingness to believe anything without asking questions and the disposition to flow with the crowd.
The fear of standing alone is the beginning of the MMM syndrome. If you cannot think through a matter, get convinced enough about it that even if you are the only one holding unto the belief, you will stick on till a superior thought convinces you, then you are in trouble. If you are not open to new ideas, such that you can change a lifelong belief when you are exposed to better knowledge, then you are suffering from that mental illness called MMM mentality syndrome.
