Mind bubbling right? You may be asking yourself, what does this heading refer to? It's nothing more than sharing some of my thoughts about our Nation's problems and how to rectify them to an extent, especially as it concerns our children.
My idea of two decades is only a pointer at 20 years to come (we can say a vision for the next 20 years).
I once attended a conference at the Whelan International Research Academy, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria late 2017. The summation of all the papers presented were centred on corruption in Nigeria and ways of eradicating it. I was thrilled by the comment of a contributor at the conference when he said that we can only enumerate the kinds of corruption there are, their effects and those who practice them, but we cannot solve it, because corruption in Nigeria has no remedy- not even laws and decrees can stop it. Later on during the conference he clarified himself by saying that, corruption has become another nature to Nigerians. Even kids in nursery schools have already been infested with the virus. So where is the remedy coming from?
Another speaker called it the "Nigerian identity". How can we change it?
The situation is truly one that appears hopeless. Every corner in our nation has a bit to share from this corruption virus. We want young leaders in our nation, but are they free of this evil?
We can agree that a greater percentage of people in this generation and even 10 years to come, have acquired this virus. But that the 'ought' does not appear feasible doesn't mean that we cannot hit at it.
At this stage,I make a proposal.
If a child is raised from the early stage to grow up hating corrupt practices, at 20 years of that child's life, he or she must have become reasonable and can operate in a non corrupt manner. And if we have an entire nation striving towards this same goal, then in 20 years coming, we would have defeated corruption to a large extent.
This sounds utopic right?
Yes it does. Nothing good comes so easy. It may seem impossible because those to teach these kids already have the virus. Families and friends also contribute. But there's always a way. We can all discover how best to do it together.
But I also think that not every one is qualified to be a teacher, especially in nursery and primary schools as these are the seed beds.
Childhood development is the key to having a corruption reduced nation.
In just two decades things can be reversed.
