Lemang Wak Saleh, a legendary culinary in the month of Ramadan that is loved by the people of Aceh as a dish for Iftar. Lemang is also famous in several regions, such as Kalimantan, North Sulawesi and West Sumatra.
Lemang is an archipelago culinary made from glutinous rice filled with bamboo sticks and cooked on a charcoal fire.
The tradition of cooking and making bamboo lemang has been practiced by the late Muhammad Saleh (Wak Saleh), since 1970. Currently the lemang business was developed by his son.
The process of roasting lemang is done in the kitchen at the back of house, which produces 80 to 100 Lemang bamboo every day.
Lemang Wak Saleh has a delicate flavor with the distinctive aroma of coconut milk and banana leaves.
Lemang is usually eaten as iftar food during Ramadan in Aceh, without the need for additional menus, but there are also connoisseurs who add jam to taste.
