Last week I posted about the late, but welcome, arrival of Fall in Kansas. Since then, Mother Nature seems to be attempting to make up for her tardy change of seasons by giving us a full blown Autumn. The temperatures have dipped down into the 30s at night and during the day now struggle to rise above 60. We have even seen a couple nights where it drops below freezing, even if it's only by a degree or two.
The results have been noticeable! Here are a few comparison pictures showing the trees from last week's post and how they look now. First up we have the Sugar Maple.
It has truly lived up to the magnificent display of colors this week that it was only promising last week.
Next we have the large Oak out back.
You can see the slow but steady progression of reds and oranges spreading down from the top. Certainly not as dramatic a change as the Sugar Maple, but if the weather holds and we don't get a hard freeze soon, this tree promises weeks of color to enjoy.
Lastly, we have the Silver Maple from last week.
Slow to start, he has reluctantly begun to show just a little orange on his crown. As the weather continues to cool, we will have to wait and see what kind of a show he has in store for us.
You may remember the two elms from last week, early and dramatic in their Autumn display, their colors have started to fade and they have begun to drop their leaves. So instead of showing comparison pictures, I will leave you with the happy memory of how they were.
Until next time...
This was a great way to show the progressive changes you are experiencing in your neck of the woods. It certainly is evident that Mother Nature is slowly but surely marching on. Brace yourself for even colder weather!
Thank you Brother! I am kind of looking forward to a little cold weather, just cold enough that we can get a nice snow that stays around for a while.
You probably won't have to wait as long as you think....old man winter is watchin' you👀
The trees have such beautiful colors this time of year. Thanks for showing us yours.
