Hey everyone,
Today I'd like to share with you another Alberta gem - barrier lake.
A beautiful location in Western Alberta at the foot of the Rocky mountains.
There are a few hikes you can do here, fairly easy terrain, a bit hilly but nothing crazy (My pack was much too heavy for the 10 Km home so I was tired near the end)
You can walk around the lake to Jewel pass and back (10 Km) or walk to Jewel pass, and take a look around to get a beautiful view of the prairies (16 Km). We were running a bit late so we stuck to the lake.
You are instantly treated to some wicked views, and they only get better as you continue.
After about 7 Km you emerge from the trail, back to the lake and you get some beautiful views of the Rocky mountains.
Barrier Lake is also home to a hydro electric plant. A massive damn releases water about 30 metres down through some turbines to generate electricity. It looks underwhelming in my photos, but in reality it's quite spectacular.
On the other side you can see the water as it falls into the creek below with a ton of force. You can hear the roars of this fall from far away.
I hope you guys enjoyed the scenery as much as I did!
Until next time
;)
Thank you for showing us another aspect of beautiful Alberta.
