RE: 1000 Words: Destroying Monuments From an Historical Perspective

in #politics7 years ago

Exactly. These statues, monuments etc are all part of America's history. They represent what made America what it is. It's a mess....but in order to make it better, lessons must be learned from the past, ie not to repeat the mistakes.
If all of these reminders are destroyed and denied, how will the future generations learn about culpability?
Perhaps statues and monuments as a last resort could be moved to educational facilities. But personally speaking, shit happened, see where it got us and don't let it happen again. These deluded fools trying to remove "offensive" monuments that are remnants of their past is like burying their heads in the sand.
I hear "Gone with the wind" is now on the "offensive" list. What next? "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn"?
All I see is people running around like headless chickens and getting nowhere. It's a never ending circle.

Sort:

"The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and Tom Sawyer have been on such lists for a LONG time.

Actually, Huck Finn has been on the list for a long time (Twain used the word "nigger"). People call these morons "useful idiots" I disagree- I think they're useless!
