The paradise that captivates us also serves to guides or force us through life. Paradise is an ideal that lasts until we don a new persona.
It is the concept of a perfect lifetime moment that remains static in our minds. During our pursuit of perfection, we meet friends who can route us from what we seek or enemies who keep us steadfast in our journey towards that blissful, ever-present moment called paradise.
What never changes are the people, events, or objects we meet along the way. The journey shall forever be more important than the destination. For it is the companions we encounter that determine where we arrive.

- Due to his absence, I will need to change some things to make funding more continuous for the contest.
- It will require that I discontinue the WOTW for a couple of weeks before taking it up again.

Contest Rules
Guidelines
Every week, Calumam chooses a word for the contest. His expectation is for community members to share their thoughts on that word during the contest week.
Recommendations to avoid disqualification
- Plagiarized articles will lead to contest disqualification and likely more.
- Don't use the #pob-wotw tag more than once per article submission.
- Don't write an article about next week's word.
Helpful Hints
- Include the selected word in your article (we are not mind readers)
- Please include the #pob-wotw tag in your article submission.
- Use the proofofbrain.io front-end.
- This week's contest starts 15/08/21 @ 00:00 UTC
- This week's contest ends 22/08/21 @ 00:00 UTC; no new entries are accepted after this time without consideration.
New Users
Are you new to Hive, or is this your first time posting to POB? There are some articles that the community recommends for reading:

The Word for THIS Week
The word for THIS week is COMPANION
What's next for the WOTW?
Interest, engagement, and rewards drive the word of the Week contest. We have the interest, as well as the engagement. We need a rewards fund. Calumam had it, but I do not.
- After the Solitude WOTW contest concludes, I will need to halt the WOTW contest for 2 - 4 weeks. I need to build up liquid. I'm new to managing contests.
- I need to formalize updates to the WOTW grading
- Review community posts for use cases and governance
- Evaluate changes to grading methods and human performance
- The result will be a more challenging and fun WOTW.
I also want to explore an expansion of the contest to other areas.
Do you like contests?
If you love contests, #proofofbrain has contests just for you! The table below presents a few authors, along with examples of their contests. Dates may vary when each new contest occurs, so be sure to follow along to get the most recent updates!
I can't remember how I stumbled on purepinay's articles, but I found them fascinating. From what I've read, she actively works to onboard new HIVE users. They're an exploration of life and onboarding. I recommend participating in her contest and reviewing some of her work.
Did you miss the current contest? No problem! Just stay in tune with these authors and more. There will be more contests that follow!

Thanks to the community for supporting our fellow authors. I look forward to providing more in the future. Thank you for reading and following on throughout my Hive journey.

Dear @scholaris,
I'm very thankful for your talent in organization. You kept the contest going. I was sad to hear this news:
Interacting with @calumam on POB was one of the most interesting experiences I have had online. The concept of Word of the Week is very simple but powerful. The uniqueness of each word and with each author's spin created a very targeted hurricane of information.
When I heard about your proposed changes I was excited. I would love to see this contest do more than make a splash but make a ripple drawing a whole new group of talent onboard Hive and POB.
Finally, I commend you for your work in curating. You even included inks in this posts to active posts that support the community with contests.
I have been welcomed and encouraged time and time again by the POB community. This challenge will just make the community even stronger. I know pob-wotw and the community will continue to contribute something great in the world for years to come. If you need a break then take it and if you need help then ask the community and tell them just like it is. I'm sure you will find support.
Thanks for the advice. I feel I have a solution I can work with through the end of the year. I responded to @samsmith1971 about it in this post. A shorter recurring series with some challenges added followed by a 1-week break for development.

.Thank you for this, it's encouraging and good to know that you are never alone in this community.
This! 100% love and agree.
Thank you @scholaris. I am sure everyone has appreciated your efforts and @nonsowrites in keeping this weekly contest going. Completely understand how onerous the time investment is to run this event week in week out. Not to mention the liquidity required for rewards. You have been very kind in stepping up to help out on this. Perhaps community members can help in some way to support the continuation of the contest. What would you need? If it's not feasible, then thank you for what you have done so far :-) Perhaps wotw can continue at much lower reward basis or bi-weekly instead (as in every second week to reduce to time required for curation and assessment by your good selves), until Calumam can return, just to keep it going? I for one thoroughly enjoy taking part for the way in which it challenges me each week to dig deep for a perspective to take and a genre to use :-) Congrats to everyone who entered and all who placed in this week's wotw. A well deserved 1st place to @mineopoly. Fantastic stuff!
Every other week would be good. Maybe go for a couple of weeks then break and repeat. I like that option better myself.
Absolutely, there are no hard fixed rules :-) It's whatever works best for you. Your personal life should not have to be impacted by this. So if you can keep it going in whatever shape or form is feasible, then everyone will fit around you. You do this out of the goodness of your heart. Nobody can ask more. And if it is too much, then that's ok too.
Yep. It looks like we'll have more focused series of articles followed by a one-week break for development. For instance, after this season:
At the end of each new season, there will be a bonus round where contestants can complete for higher rewards. The bonus round will be a challenge:
I've got the funding issues squared away for now. We'll be good for the next two weeks.
Funding can be taken care of as easily has upvoting the posts you make :) I haven't been on too much to take advantage of contests. I will finish my vacations at the end of this month and hopefully finish my master's degree by mid October...if that all goes to plan, I'll be back on in late Oct/early Nov to contribute more....
Yep. I reorganized things and I'm good to go. I just had to stop staking every POB cent I made lol. I finish my master's in December. Oh my god I can't wait.
I'm pleased you have found an approach that works for you too. The future of the contest sounds intriguing ... I can only look forward to the greater challenges this will bring lol
I'm interested in the challenge of the bonus round. I wonder if anyone will actually do it. I can't wait to try it.
ha ha...count me in! I'm sure you will have a fair few game to take it on.
!LUV

@samsmith1971, you've been given LUV from @mineopoly.
Check the LUV in your H-E wallet. (1/10)
thanks! :-)
Can other members of the community support the rewards for the contests?
I…guess so. It’s not an path I considered. His absence caught us off guard. We were a very smooth process until Calumam had to leave. Now it’s just me and @nonsowrites.
Apart from the rewards I feel well have to have a shorter and themed season. Maybe a WOTW season of every 5 weeks followed by a short break. There’s a lot involved.
If you need help with something specific to operate the contest, why not post your needs here. I mean, if it is something that is in my wheelhouse to do, I'd assist to keep this project going. And I'm sure others would step up too.
Grandpa always said: "if you don't ask, the answer is always no!"
Yes, @scholaris, we will all step up to support
Thanks for that. I guess I’m a little burned out with finals and learning new programs for a new job at work. I’ll talk to non about it, but I think I know what we need. Probably a new curator. But again I’m new to this.
Rewards aren’t much of an issue. I just need to plan for it. Plus I naturally give more rewards to contestants because of the high level of scrutiny we give. So people participating are rewarded higher than normal.
I completely understand
Hehehehe........ A curator, I would have signed up for this, but, I must confess, my curation is likely to conflict with yours... Lol
so I'll pass up this role.
If this is the case, there is no problem
I think I'm good for now. I responded to @samsmith1971 in this post about a new plan for a more focused season and challenge round.
As far as curation, don't count yourself out. I DO NOT want curators identical to me. The WOTW merit system is meant to be an objective approach to a subjective process. We don't need to agree. We just need to align. That's what the merit system attempts to achieve:
You have a great point as usual. I’ll look into things further. Maybe I don’t have to pause the contest after all. Perhaps I could even pause for a week to set up a shorter season.
When things are going well, there is a rhythm that develops. A short rest can throw off the rhythm and no rest can burn out the whole engine. So the dilemma is to rest or not to rest. Hopefully others can help you carry the burden. I think it might help if you you make an offer for delegations or POB donations.
A few years ago there was a contest similar to this on Stee**t called Comedy Open Mic. In the announcement post there was always room to announce donations and delegations. I think some of our POB members would like something like that:
https://steemit.com/comedyopenmic/@comedyopenmic/comedy-open-mic-comedy-contest-round-46
The contest went well until Stee*t got F%ked up.
I will love to support the rewards as well
Smiling....
Well done. I'm sure you will be able to handle it. :)
The best (material) reward for the contest is getting upvotes and a quick way to find posts to curate anyway.
It’s much easier to give higher votes during the contest. The articles presented are highly scrutinized. So adding an articles leads to higher earnings a lot of the time.
Oh what! How come his not returning? PoB is a great active community and he will surely miss out on further development. He was a great contributor
He has personal matters to attend. I believe it was an emergency.
Every day is not a Christmas so we can't expect our expectations perfect everyday, even the nature of life is in two face which is either bad or good and that is the arroning of nature,I love your update keep it up.
Thank you very much for your compliment and support.
This is a wonderful content, thanks for sharing.
I appreciate that and I'm glad to share!
Congrats and well done winners.
I've got to do better. LOL
Congratulation to the winners,we go again this week, and so thanks sholaris you are doing a great job
Thank you very much. I’m glad you like the contest.
Thankyou for mentioning my contest @scholaris
You're very welcome. Thanks to you as well for your onboarding efforts. I haven't been at this moderation/curation efforts for long, but I can definitely see the benefit of putting new arrivals through orientation. Everyone wins as a result.
I have issued rewards to the following authors:
Thank you @scholaris^^
You're very welcome.
Oh, nice :D i think i will be able to add one to companion :) tomorrow i think <3
Great I look forward to reading your article!
O Lord!! Give me the ability to stand among my folks, i can't do this on my own.
I wrote this at the last moment so I thought I will add the link here just in case https://www.proofofbrain.blog/hive-150329/@sofs-su/companions-and-companionship
