Predictions about the fall of China's space station Tiangong-1 have been known since a few months ago. However, until now, researchers have not been able to predict exactly the location of the fall of the space station.
Quoted from Space.com, Monday (19/3/2018), European Space Agency (ES) Space Debris Office in Darmstadt, Germany, has the latest prediction. According to them, the Tiangong-1 debris is expected to return to Earth on 30 March to 6 April 2018.
The re-entry of the station, which weighs 8.5 tons, is predicted to fall in an area between 43 degrees north latitude and 43 degrees south latitude. Coverage includes a wide, even not closed the possibility of such debris can fall in Indonesia.
"However, until now, there has been no precise prediction about the location and timing of the station's collapse," ESA wrote. In Indonesia alone, the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN) has been monitoring the fall of this space station.
Head of LAPAN, Thomas Djamaludin through his blog also said until now still can not be accurately calculated the position of the fall of Tiangong-1. Because, it depends on several factors, such as atmospheric density affected by solar activity and the Earth's magnetic field.
"Variations in the activity of the Sun can cause a considerable period of uncertainty in the fall time, the rate of accuracy will increase with the closer the time it falls, until mid-March, the forecast of time falls around April, with the uncertainty of +/- 7 days," he wrote.
Therefore, LAPAN will continue to inform the progress of monitoring of the fall of Tiangong-1 on the official website of LAPAN. Previously, LAPAN also several times already identified objects falling outer space in Gorontalo, Lampung, Bengkulu, Madura, as well as the latest in Agam.
Predictions about the fall of the Tiangong-1 space station have been known since the beginning of this year. However, the location and timing of the station's fall remains uncertain.
Aerospace Corporation predicts Tiangong will enter Earth's atmosphere in the first week of April. Meanwhile, the European Space Agency said the station will fall between March 24 and April 19, 2018.
Aerospace Corporation also estimates there will be a small portion of the station will fall in a state of intact. They say, if the condition really happened, the debris can be sized up to hundreds of kilometers.
They also warned that the rest of the space station might carry a toxic and destructive fuel called hydrazine. The initial estimate of the station's collapse position is at 43 degrees north latitude and 43 degrees south latitude.
Nevertheless, Aerospace believes the possibility of the debris falling in the uninhabited region of each country is very small. They say, in history, no one has ever been hurt because of the debris of outer space.
Prediction about Tiangong-1 is known following the Chinese statement which said it has lost control of the station in 2016.
Just for information, Tiangong-1 is a space station that size is large enough. In fact, the weight can range in 9,500 kilograms and has many components.
Scientists estimate that 10-40 percent of the corpses of the space station will enter the atmosphere. If calculated, about 1-4 tons of debris of this station will land on Earth.
Tiangong-1 itself was launched in 2011. This station is also a symbol of China's technological innovation updates. In 2012, the station is inhabited by the first Chinese female astronaut, Liu Yang.
Though small in size than any other space station - let alone the ISS (International Space Station) - Tiangong is considered to be influential for China's aeronautical world.
The station is staying digadang carrying missions and dreams of Chinese society to see outer space in the future.
