Hello there Steemians, how was your week ends? Ready for another week ahead?
The owner, Nik Naser, wife Zanariah an I , shortly after the cartoons were installed.
The whole idea.
I was once, assigned by a Café owner to fill up the wall of his newly opened branch with sketches of my cartoons, portraying the activities of Malaysian at ‘Kopitiam’ .
‘Kopitiam’ means coffee shop or simply, CAFÉ, but the old fashioned way. Spending time or hanging out with friends and family at Kopitiam seemed very popular during 1960’s or even earlier.
Kopitiam as a favorite spot became popular again these few years back, mushrooming nation wide just like retro and hipsters. They tried to maintain the earlier concept, made popular by the Chinese with cheap food and drinks. The environment was some how recreated to look old fashioned, with classic tables and chairs design, classic utensil including the famous cups and saucers too.
Kopitiam popular cup.
Nik wanted me to come out with original composition of the yesteryears kopitiam and also the contemporary scenario, to be blown up and acted as wall paper to his OLD KLANG ROAD KOPITIAM... named after a famous street in Kuala Lumpur for its business activities .
The Cartoons
So, I had to use my imagination, with a little bit of reference to produce five pieces of artworks.
I even injected the 1Malaysia Spirit of multi racial integration to make it more realistic and interesting. Nik liked it very much.
Using the high quality big format sticker , the artworks were blown up to cover the whole wall seamlessly.
The Wall.
The illustrated wall could be clearly viewed from the busy corridor on the ground floor of Giant Kinrara, in Bandar Kinrara, south of Kuala Lumpur.
Looking at rhe wall full of my cartoons reminded me of Pink Floyd’s all time popular, The Wall. One of my favorites
Did I mention about the menu in Old Klang Road Kopitiam? Oh my, the fried noodles and Nasi Lemak served here is one of the best in town.
The Teh Tarik was also yummy!
The Famous and legendary cartoonist, Datuk Lat has been there to witness and hang out for hours.
Besides the clasicc cups, the kopitiam also offers their very own mugs for sale as souvenir....
Till we meet again in other post, bye bye...
