Hello steemians.
Everybody knows BATMAN. Almost everybody loves the hero of Gotham City, but not everybody who care to collect everything about Batman.. Be it from the comics, movies or merchandise.
I have been collecting Batman figurines for more than 25 years now. Yes, only the figurines.
I am having more than 200 figures of Batman of all sorts, sizes qnd types. Some are action figures, statues, sculptures made of raisin, plastick, ceramic, metal etc. But this time, I am not going to highlight on my collections, but I am going to share something simple but very tricky, particularly involving our eye sihgt...an illussion.
3D illussions
In this post, I am narrowing down the many types of illussions into how our eyes were tricked and later made our mind believes the same. Keep on reading, I shall explain what I meant.
Look at this two pictures...( now you know that I am only using the Batman statue as a subject ) besides the different lighting and colors, can you spot the major difference between them?
Stop guessing, let me give you the answer... the one on the left is a real statue in 3D, the other one is the 2D picture of the same statue, which looked like 3D as well, looking from a certain angle.
Have you ever noticed this, whenever you watch sports on TV?
Or this signboard at the baseline of the field?
They looked like being placed in a standing position, where as, they were NOT... infact, they were just lying flat on the green...
How about the 3D arts on the floor of this open space? They looked like real hole on the ground, when they were being viewed from a ‘correct’ angle.
This one is also an art on the flat floor.
How it was done?
I’ve made a little ‘study’ and found out a simple method. Maybe most of the artist knew how it was done and some of them had the experience if producing it somewhere. The art of doing it is creating an illussion to the viewers. The masterpiece has to be ditortef into a certain angle in order to enjoy the effect and impact.
This is the Batman statue that I selected to use as an explanation. It could be touched as a 3D object...
Instead of drawing it, I just snapped a photo using my handphone camera....( faster and easier, of course )☺️
Using Photoshop, I changed the ‘aspect ratio’ of the image to distort it into an elongated shape.
With a pair of scissors (or a cutter), trim the sunject image by removing part of the back ground and create a new horixon.... like this...
Position it upwords... we are almost done..,
Try to get the best angle in order to see it as a 3D object now
Aha... we are DONE.
Now let’s proved that what we are looking at is a 2D image rhat looks like 3D, the ilussion had tricked our vission...
Let’s make a comparison, again...,
Thank you for watching and reading.
