Tonight I found myself looking for promising new Steemians for the first time in months. It can be easy to just look at whatever content your followers are putting out, and nothing else.
I still remember my first post. It would have barely had any reward if @hr1 had not given me a vote.
The legend of newbie helpers of course doesn’t do this anymore and has moved on to other things such as @steeveapp but it made me think about having a trawl though the new posts.
I was looking for valid posts written by real newbies with a reputation of less than 30. What I found was far fewer than I realised. I was not interested in ‘Trending’ and looked at the ‘New’ section.
The last time I did this, there were far greater numbers. There are still some but not the masses we used to see.
I noticed several ‘please support me’ ones and lots of foreign language posts that us lazy English cannot understand, but couple that were OK.
I gave them a 12c vote each and resteemed them. This was similar to what @hr1 did for me, though he was most silent then and did noting but vote!
There are several ‘regulars’ who seem to enjoy greeting new people including one I recognise, @brittandjosie, nice to see you doing this!
It makes a change sometimes just to see who’s new and if there are any particularly talented people who are deserving of some attention.
I can’t say I found any this round, but I have in the past. Just for a change have a look and see if you can find any good ones.
A comment and vote helps these people a lot, especially if they have made some effort. Now I have finished this I’m going back to find a few more.
Apologies, if my feed has a few resteems tonight, but at least it saves you looking for the good ones.
If you found this article so invigorating that you are now a positively googly-eyed, drooling lunatic with dripping saliva or even if you liked it just a bit, then please upvote, comment, resteem, engage me or all of these things.
Thanks for the great article! As a total newbie here myself this gave me some nice insight.

Hello @natedebate,
I just looked at your very detailed Kingdom Hearts review post and saw ...
https://steemit.com/video/@natedebate/the-kingdom-hearts-3-experience-a-spoiler-free-review
Its 16 days old and I see you havent posted anything else... cant say I blame you.
Take my advice and do an #introduceyourself post, I'm going to follow you and give you a full vote here as your post is now too old.
I had 3 posts that gained me $0.00 when I first started, Don't give up.. it will happen for you.
Awesome, I really appreciate it!

Keep at it, but work on building a following. There are lots of gamers on Steem. Maybe look at some of the games built on Steem and post about those.
Hey great work and awesome habit to form! Yah Britt is pretty special and is always looking out for folks. Like the steemit mom.
I think I should be doing this as well. Though my vote will not have anywhere near the weight yours does, it can definitely make a difference.

I try to check every second day or so and always aim to leave a useful comment. I do 100% votes on posts I feel are genuine and interest me.
Feels good to support when I can, but it’s been great to see other folk really supporting the newbies in a big way (like as you say @steevc and @brittandjosie)

I check out the stuff @heyhaveyamet post... a cultivated intro to people from the #introduceyourself tag
Which is run by @brittandjosie and @xcountytravelers
I wasn't aware of that, a great idea!
Yep, that's us! Thanks @darrenfj for the shoutout!
@brittandjosie goes out ahead of me and comments on as many real, good or not, introductions and I come through and scoupe them up into a post so people dont have sort throught the mess. I so appreciate her!
Normally we put a post out every day, but I missed today. My day just got away from me.
Ren
Yeah it's hard to find the good ones, it's like finding music in today's world (for me)... lots of crap to sift through to find some gems.
I have found even from the word go.. you can tell if someone has some potential in the way that they write.
This is so true. I try to put EVERY real intro in the posts and there is a lot of crap. However, we have found what we thought were going to be mediocre bloggers, but once they learned it all, they became amazing accounts. Love, love, love when that happens.
I actually welcome it as I have been spending time there daily for a couple of months now and select a handful for a weekly introduction curation posts in an effort to motivate them to continue their engagement. I have seen a number that put some impressive time and thought to their introduction! I have even gone back to see how many of those I selected have remained active and while it isn’t very many, it is encouraging to see them grow!

Well good on you! I wish I did as much as this but I dont' look that often.
I have picked a couple out in the past and followed them, resteemed and they have had several @curie's. It does encourage them a lot.
I try to once a week take a look for the new Introduction posts and give a welcome, I will save myself some time and check your resteems this evening if time permits
Congratulations! This post has been chosen as one of the daily Whistle Stops for The STEEM Engine!
You can see your post's place along the track here: The Daily Whistle Stops, Issue 446 (04/02/19)
Thanks for the reminder. I try to manually curate so many of the regulars, I tend to forget the newbies!
I always tell myself that I need to browse through the introduction posts from time to time to find new people, but then I get busy and I never do it.
I need to be better at that!
That's a very good point! I used to do that a while back, but I somehow got out of the habit. I'll try and get back into it.
I rarely find time to do this. We relied on @paulag to find candidates for #TenKMinnows by querying the blockchain directly. I tend to find people via resteems of if they comment on my posts. They need to make some effort to get noticed.
These are a different category of people, the brand new and know nothing type.
Ooo harsh, it's not the budding minnows, but the first posters I'm talking about.
I know what you mean. The total newbies do need help and support, but how many will do this?
LOL, very few.. and I don't do it often but sometimes it just needs pointing out that there are still real people still joining!
I voted up a few newbies after your post. Will try to do that more often.
queries can be used to find new quality people too :-). I often use data to find people
It's a good idea I think. I remember trying this when I was trying to break into @curie - I found it so difficult to find anything of decent quality I just gave up, I spent several days.
But I guess the bar is lower here, which is fair enough.
It is hard to find anything really good, but new people shouldn't really dish out their best content when there's zero audience. Still you can tell if you find one.. they kind of stick out.
Ah, the days of dismal -- and I do mean dismal -- rewards. And those were in the days when Steem was anywhere from 2 - 7 TIMES higher than it has been recently. I don't think I had any early posts that got absolutely nothing. But that was mostly due to PAL / Minnow Support, which thank God @princessmewmew told me about very early on. I don't know what I'd have done without her.
Her efforts were all the more commendable considering there was a 92% chance I wouldn't be around at all in a matter of months. The attrition rate was that high -- and it may not have improved much, once you factor in the low, low, low price of Steem -- along with some other ... issues.
I admit I haven't been terribly welcoming of newcomers. That attrition rate really discourages me -- and time (as you know) is always such a pressing concern. What I usually find isn't worth the trip, although as you said, there are occasionally a few promising unpolished prospects that could use a lift (Freudian slip ... I typed "could use a life" ... and corrected it. Interesting.)
I will try to check more often myself, although I've just begun rebuilding my SP and it may take a while. But I do have experience and some leverage elsewhere -- and I'm willing to use both. Newcomers who can help raise the overall level of content here could use the encouragement. Srsly. We need them.
You did well then, I had THREE that got a big fat $0.00!
I hope so.., don't want you to leave.. though you know that already.
Yes we do, I don't look as much as I should.. mostly down to time, but I will try and look more than I have in recent times.

Hello @slobberchops.. I like what you are doing, so far every steemian experience difficulties during the first week of their posting..we have a part to play by supporting these steemians. I really love what @brittandjosie is doing.. She has a golden heart . Let's support newbies with our comments and maybe some upvotes . If we don't, they will feel frustrated and leave. I've seen some few steemians that are desperately posting plagiarised contents due to frustration and because nobody is helping them.
