Last week I ran a competition experiment where I delegated various amounts out to people and added a few more that I would upvote a little from time to time. Every Sunday I will try to give a brief update however, I am not the one qualified for this, those who 'won' are and I ask that if they can drop a comment on the post to tell of their experiences. It doesn't have to be a long comment, just something that others who read it might want to know.
It should be that from about this day on, they will be getting payouts from the posts they have made (I hoped they would self-vote their article posts). I asked that they would use some of the delegation to give to others in the community if they chose. And, I hoped they would power some of their earnings up.
500 delegation for 4 weeks
@greer184 500
@castleberry 500
250 delegation for 4 weeks
@ldacey-laforge 250
@wolfhart 250
@sistem 250
@tuwore 250
@lordjames 250
@warpedpoetic 250
Some votes when I can for 4 weeks
@thedarkhorse
@prettyjules158
@farq
@dedicatedguy
I am running this experiment to see what are the minimum levels for some people be able to build themselves and give a little to the community. Of course, it can be done at any level but I am wondering if 250 is enough to start with and once at 500, the support could be removed. This of course takes time and I am not large enough to run the experiment for long however, the feedback I get might encourage others to try to delegate a little more also.
I am hoping these people to have at least a couple of extra Steem powered up by the end of this as that might help them a great deal in the future and if community thinkers, they will also be able to help new members coming on to the platform. All of these cents add up, never underestimate them.
This experiment will run for 3 more weeks before the delegation is cut but I am hoping it will help you guys understand a little more, benefit and perhaps get a feel of where it could lead if more people think about the community.
At a very basic calculation level.
2500 SP has a current vote of 57c (prices are 'low')
10 a day is 5.70
That is 2.85 SBD / ~0.7 Steem at 50/50 payout.
if converted now, it is equivalent to 3.5 Steem a day
3.5 x 28 days = 98 Steem.
98 STEEM is currently worth about $350 US.
That is how much the 2500 STEEM is around about worth to the Steemit community on current prices.
Here are the lowest earning countries per capita in the world. These numbers are YEARLY figures.
- Malawi $250
- Burundi $270
- Central African Republic $320
- Liberia $370
- Congo, Dem. Rep. $380
- Niger $410
- Madagascar $440
- Guinea $470
- Ethiopia $550
- Guinea-Bissau $550
The gaps in this world are quite large aren't they? Do we want the same here? Small amounts can add up and make differences for many people.
When Steem hits 10 dollars 98 = 980
When Steem hits 100 dollars 98 = 9800
When Steem hits 1000 dollars 98 = 98000
If you can make 5 Steem now, it is potentially 50, 500, 5000 dollars respectively. At $500 it is 2 years of income in Malawi. You want to help people in the world? Work and hold a little for the future as you might one day want to use your own 2c, 20c, $2 or $20 dollars differently than you are now.
There are a lot of ways to approach this life, lots of ways to make the world a little better. Find one.
Taraz
[ a Steemit original ]
EDIT: I forgot to add, if you need help with anything, let me know.
Last week I received 250SP from Taraz. I was pretty new to Steemit and only had 6SP in total to my name. Needless to say, these 250SP were an incredible gift and totally unexpected. I started thinking about how I would want to spend them.
I tried to use my SP to give some more value to the people who took their time to comment on my articles. I also focused on the quality of my posts. The day after the delegation, I posted an article about the lessons poker thaught me. It got resteemed by ocd and one day later the article suddenly was worth 40SBD and 12SP, twice more than I had in total. The same day I wrote an article in Dutch about "the pain of our society" which caught eyes of OCD-international and got featured in their daily article. That blogpost is now worth 10SBD and 3SP.
So in a few days I was able to more than double my SP and collect +- 40 SBD after curations awards. I also gained some new followers which is of course very nice as well.
Maybe all these things aren't immediately related to the SP-delegation, but I believe it had a part in it. I hope to further increase my total SP in the coming weeks. It feels good to give back a little more value to the people who deserve it in my eyes. It's nice to give 6c-votes and encourage the new Steemians who make quality-content. So thanks for that opportunity, Taraz!
Keep up the good work!
That is great news!
@ocd is an excellent curation project and they do a good job of getting around and spreading their value. What many people don't realise is that it is a privately supported project started by @acidyo and gets helped by a few whales along the way who either support directly or through delegation to some of the curators like @anomadsoul. I know many of the curators too and they work hard to find a whole range of articles each day. For small accounts looking for curation rewards or resteems on decent content, check out @ocd too.
Now, yes, it is not attributable to my delegation but, if you think in another way often the feeling of being invested makes one work harder than one who feel disenfranchised or disengaged. Attitude matters.
Thanks @tuwore
@tarazkp gave me 250sp delegation to use as i please for four weeks.
I expanded my upvoting and curation and right now my voting power is always below 50.
I also suddenly started getting private messages from different folks who have never given me the time or day, begging for upvotes or delegations. Some posts i upvoted and some i ignored as some didn't deem it fit to say hi.
I have started to upvote comments on my posts, encouraging interaction among those who read my posts and i have been upvoting myself too.
What i have discovered so far is that a bigger sp brings respect here on steemit and everyone wants to be associated with success. I have interacted with more people since i got the delegation compared to before i got it.
I also have absurd worries. I have been curated twice by Curie before now, so i don't really expect to tap from that well again but this means that i have to do more posts so i can milk this delegation to the maximum. Why?Because once the four weeks is done, i will be back to the regular 0.010 upvote and that is a rather bad fall.
All in all, i would like to commend you @tarazkp for this experiment and i pray it generates interest among those with enough sp to make a difference. Peace.
But would it be a nice idea to keep Voting Power below 50?
Try to keep your voting power above 80 or so whjich means being a little more discerning with content :)
Do not ever feel obligated to upvote links dropped to you
Don't stress it enjoy. But, you should also think about powering a little up or doing something with the SBD you are earning as who knows what prices on SBD will do.
Ok. Thank you very much.
Hmmmm where do I start from? Should I start from the joy I experience the day I was chosen to be given this delegation or should I start from how this delegation has been of immense help to me.
Well I would start with showing great gratitude to @tarazkp for this wonderful delegation. It was a delegation i never expected would come my way as I just entered the contests becuase of the love I have for commenting on @tarazkp's post and for how interactive he is.
I was given a delegation of 250sp by @tarazkp and at the time I had about 90sp which which was worth about $0.02 then.
Since when I got the delegation till now, I have been able to grow my steem power to $101.
The $0.06 the 250sp gave me was used judiciously in upvoting a few great contents i found around, was also uses in upvoting my recent posts and was also used in making my comments on various posts more visible as comments are often buried away when you get to comment late.
It has been a wonderful experience as I currently feel like a mini whale, being able to add significant value to the contents produced by others around steemit and it's been really incredible . It's quite unfortunate that I have just 3 weeks left to enjoy this (sobs) but I believe that when it is taken away from me, with hardwork and dedication , I would grow my steem power more that 250.
Once again I say a very big thank you for this @tarazkp. I have known you for just a while but you have left you footprints in my sands of Time.
More steem power to you...
Good work. I think that in time you will slowly build to get more consistent rewards on your posts as you develop your content and visibility. I am glad the experience has been positive for you so far :)
The figures are interesting and give hope for those in poorer countries to supplement if not pay for their lifestyle.
As to my experience with your generously delegated SP ~ I have been very busy commenting like a dervish and upvoting on my merry way! It certainly feels good to leave an upvote with a more respectable value :)
I have also been sharing the love to myself although this kinda feels a little shady to me? But then I rationalise that true love begins with self and from that gains momentum and power...
Since being on Steemit i have not withdrawn any funds and power up continually so your delegation is being put to long term good use.
As delegator do you reap any rewards from the delegatee?(Is that actually a word?) I do hope so ~ talking reward not word here!
Anyway, once again thanks.
Be well.
xox
No, I don't as it is free delegation. some people sell it to the bidbots or directly to users and it is quite a lucrative business. I choose not to as I think it will lead to a negative position for the community.
Hopefully you will see returns on this in time.
Don't feel shady as long as the content is content you would upvote even if it wasn't you own. Look at it as an investment in yourself now that will help others in the future more too. Of course, that future requires some action ;)
xox
I was really glad to receive this delegation. It wasn't something I had expected. I know a whole lot of people who are selling or leasing out their sp for profit. So, when I read @tarazkp's post about delegation I didn't think it's gonna work out well. So thank you @tarazkp for seeking out the long term sustainability of this community.
The delegation I received have been really really helpful to me. Though I rarely use it to upvote my own articles, I have made it a target to keep my self upvote below 10% and I use http://www.steemreports.com to monitor that. To me, I think the community is more important, so while I expect others in the community to curate my content, I reciprocate that by curating contents that I believe is worth it.
The delegation has been very helpful with my commenting and other engagement on the platform. I haven't been hit by bandwidth issues since I got the delegation. Though my commenting have gone down due to power issues here but I hope to up my game this week.
Above all, it has proven to be more of a responsibility than a privilege. I have to manually curate a lot of contents and was flowing with it till I discovered that my voting power is quite low. Now am on a full day break to get back to above 90%. I hope to power up to 200sp by the time the one month delegation is off cause it won't be funny when my upvote drops from $0.050 back to $0.010.
Thank you once again @tarazkp
If you write something you would upvote from another person, upvote it. You have a future potential to help many more than currently but it requires some stake. Earn a little more stake now, pay a lot more out then.
It doesn't take very much and that is why you should power some up.
Good plan, one that I am terrible at.
Very ambitious but, I will try to support a little along the way too.
I am still in thankful shock to have gotten 500SP for this experiment. I was frozen with fear almost for about a day.
I have tried to make the best use of the power in spreading the love. It has really helped me to reward comments. That is one area that I always wanted to show more appreciation in but didn't have the value to do so well enough. The slider also helps maximize my ability to spread the love around too.
I am going to be much more productive with the next 3 weeks in posting. I will keep up with my growth and stats a little better as well. I plan on powering up almost every bit of SBD rewarded during this time. I am about to begin the process I laid out in my entry as well. Wish me luck!
Thank you again @Tarazkp for this wonderful opportunity! I think once I become a little bigger myself, that you have inspired me to try a few experiments as well. The list of data you posted here is VERY REVEALING about how much value this platform really has, and that isn't even considering the potential, which as you pointed out has a very good future outlook! I feel many take for granted how grateful we should all be in having been afforded the opportunity to participate within this platform and all of it's communities.
This is a good use.
I am really looking forward to seeing how this will go for you.
Many see the dip and their entitlement issues kick in. They look at the highly rewarded and it is their jealousy. So few just keep their eyes on their own plate and work.
I know what you mean! Sometimes my eyes get too big for my stomach... and what's on my plate is more than enough! Then I need to remember on the flip side... some don't even have a plate! Things are just getting warmed up!
This motivates mento work even harder, it always confirms i have a great opportunity to help myself and those i can reach.
Am from Uganda africa and $350 is alot of money.
Its always nice to see people spending their time and resources to help the life of other people. Some African countries earn very low income and its hard to imagine how they raise their family. Coming from a country broke and plague with corruption i know the pain. Thank you again for your efforts
Sheeshh!! Those YEARLY figures about the lowest earning countries per capita in the world looks a lil bit outdated and basically African.
tēnā koe! a simple remainder about how much worse are currently the venezuelan within one of the richest countries in mineral and natural resources in the world. January 2018 per capita YEARLY incomes statistics ~ $40.68 ¡TODAY IS EVEN WORST! ¡Ouch! Beam Me Up Scotty!!
Definitely an oversight. Sorry.
About that list of countries, Venezuela should be added there.
The problem with Venezuela figures is that there is an official rate that when used, it looks like if Venezuelan people earned a lot of money, and a black market rate, which is the one used by the majority, and when applied regular venezuelans don't earn not even 50$ per month...
Of course, Venezuela wasn't always like this, but today that is the situation.
If you are interested in the black market rate you can check dolartoday.com
And if you wonder why is there a black market? because there is a currency exchange control, so the government decides who has access to the official price of other currencies (only their friends of course...)
@por500bolos commented the same. It was an oversight based on a google search.
Meanwhile I increased my SP from the basic 15 to 91 through blocktrades' 'steem power delegation' for 90 days.My vote value has been increased from nothing to $0.02 ! That I consider as a milestone.
Everything is fine.But when it comes to quality content creation,I think,Im far behind..I don't know what to write..When talking with someone in real life, I have no dearth of words,But when it comes to publishing something on steemit My mind becomes an 'Empty Space'..I think it is because of I read a lot here and most of them use a good English. I often feel inferior about my English vocabulary! Posting a single photo and expecting a biggg vote(Many people do,Often by Bid Bots) is not fair..
Thats where I need help.
I am hoping these people to have at least a couple of extra Steem powered up by the end of this as that might help them a great deal in the future and if community thinkers, they will also be able to help new members coming on to the platform. All of these cents add up, never underestimate them.
Thanks for the undefined share given, a proverb givers will never lack...@tarazkp i hope people you powered up will be able to life up some minnows now the community will be developed if everyone is not lacking...looking forward from you sir...happy sunday
I live in a fairly poor country and I like your way of thinking because the amount I gathered during the last 8 months is quite affective in my perspective
I don't really really know how it all will work out but, I feel a certain about of responsibility to pay something forward regardless of the effort it takes me to earn.
I feel like as important t is to self upvote it is also important to give back to the community that helped us . There’s so many projects that we can support as well . It’s great that you took out SP and delegated it . 98 is a lot especially in 3rd world countries
Many great points from this post Taraz,
This experiment is great. Once you can figure out the minimum delegation to become self-sustaining then the Steemit community can grow faster.
And yes, like stock - holding Steem for long time adds up. Once the price reaches the peak - it would be 10 or 100 times more valuable.
Keep going...
@tarazkp thank you very much for this. Any and all support is always appreciated! If you ever have any suggestions for me on my posts feel free to toss them at me. I have thick skin and don't mind constructive criticism.
I have been trying hard to be a good steward of steemit and growing my account without compromising my position on what I feel is spammy actions.
Actually just posted about The Curatation Leagues and my thoughts and experience. So far it's a fun way to look at your results compared to others. Think it's a great way to see some of the things that I can improve on, like actually voting for witnesses...seriously I'm not allowed to complain about anything else about the platform until I get more witness votes taken care of.
If you find this experiment is going well and results are what you expected let me know and if I can swing it I'll fund one 250 delegation for a few weeks. I can lease 250 and then delegate out the same amount. Maybe if a handful of us can do this the experiment can last longer.
BTW, those income levels are mind blowing to me. To think that someone could replace that income here with continued work to grow their account without any upfront investment. Love how Steemit provides a level playing field for anyone anywhere in the world.
Yes it is interesting and I think more people should take part to see how curation works.
That is up to you but for now, build what you can for yourself. It sounds selfish but there is a future to think of too. I have some other plans for a few other things along these lines. Let's see.
You can see why so many 3rd world users are here yet it is difficult to onboard the 1st. Problem is, it is not a charity, it has to be based on several conditions and needs outside investment to grow.
Without some outside investment it takes an awfully long time to gain enough SP to be able to do anything. I put in some cash to build up my account, not a ton but enough to at least have some voting power.
Then I have what was 100 more Steem that I play with using for paid upvotes for exposure, playing the spread back and forth between Steem and SBD, and just sitting there in case I need quick cash. This 100 allowed me to lease some SP also and then rebuild the reserve over the last couple weeks. Thinking about adding more leased SP soon.
Wao is so nice seeing generous people like @tarazkp helping humanity pls how can i too get a free delegation
some people run competitions occasionally but generally, free delegations are rare.
Ok , i'm so glad to get a feed back from you
hopefully you last week did not misjudge people, it looks funny if they can not use it
Thanks brother for sharing a good information for us..
lovely post...i am waiting your next post...so thanks for sharing it...keep it up bro
That is amazing!!
Such a nice thing to do and they're so lucky...wish I to be one of them..
I need your help Sir @tarazkp i'm newbie I try to find peoples many days, finally I read your article you helped peoples to delegate steem power. I want also to delegate some steem power from you can you help me?
That is not how it works.
ohk, but If you want to delegated me, let me know ?
Well actually, you are a plagiarist by the looks stealing parts from articles from places like the Huffington post and using bidbots to upvote it. Two of my pet dislikes. Do you think yourself worthy of a free delegation?

I suggest you stop doing this or I am going to start flagging and reporting it to @steemcleaners
I did't ask you to free delegatiOn
and sorry I'll not next time do that...
