RE: Communities are crash proof

in #steemfest6 years ago

communities might be crash proof, but the people in them are not. we are crashed and burning. and not for the reasons you think.

some people are doing really well on steemit. they still make a huge shitload on their sometimes mediocre posts, while other people who write amazing things make a dollar or two. the steem system has yet to resolve this issue.

I dont think it will happen if we keep going down the trending path where quantity is better than quality.

Lately what I hear from this community is that steem prospers from things that keep people buying and engaging. And sure, some of that stuff could be decent. but if people want to buy off color jokes and tired memes, then that will be our product.

but should we be letting the market dictate? if the market wants McDonalds and Walmart, is that just ok with everyone??

my issue with this is I believe that eventually talented creators will be pushed out by the people that make trolling seem cool. and im just not cool with that.

I believe that we really need to think about direction and purpose, and what kind of message we want potential creators and investors to hear.
