If you mine an account instead of registering it then you don't get that 3 SP, but instead receive the 1 SP reward for the mined block that created that account.
If you are mining with an already registered account you will just get the 1 SP reward when you mine a block.When you register on steemit via the normal way you get 3 SP from the @steem account as a start.

Okay, so a reasonable PC may get one block (=1 Steem) per day. That's more than I generally make, so it may give me a boost. I may give it a try just to see. Thanks
It seems so for the moment with a high-end Intel CPU, your AMD may need more time, but luck also plays a role... so the best thing is just to give it a try and see after 2-3 days what will be the results. Also if you do, please post what hashrate you are getting when mining.
