Voting on a post should show that you think it's good. It could also pay you to do so, but don't expect to earn much until you have hundreds of Steem Power

Following someone means you will see their posts in your Feed page. It saves the effort of search for stuff all the time, but searching and using tags to start with will lead you to the good writers. They will probably appear in the Hot, Active and Trending pages

Now we're talking! Get involved in the conversation and you will make friends. You may even pick up some followers for yourself. Just keep it on topic and don't go begging for follows and votes. That's a sure way to get blocked or voted down.

As I understand it your votes will have less power if you make more than some limit (could be around 40 per day). So just voting on everything won't help you. You need to be selective. You can see your current voting power on https://steemstats.com/ It will drop as you vote, but gradually rise again.
I'm seeing a lot of people just seem to vote, but they probably won't gain much from that.

No, you cannot move it straight to SD. Have to buy some on the market. You can mode SD to Steem and that takes 3.5 days and uses the current price at the end of that
