Hey @timcliff, thanks for the answer! But isn't it possible to develope an algorithm to do that? What could happen when a user confirms his phone number and email address and they are unique, maybe even a catcha? This would take just a few seconds and should be absolutely safe.

They are working on automating it. It already does email, phone, and captcha - but even with that people find a way around it.

Hi @timcliff,
Am I correct that these people do this for the initial steem power?
Wouldn't they stop doing this, if the initial steem is blocked forever and also does not increase?
Only earned and bought steem should increase and be able to power down.

Any account has a small amount of STEEM power, which is given to it by the creating account. Steemit also delegates 15 SP to the account to get started - which can be used to upvote. 100 ‘free’ accounts would have 1,500 SP worth of voting power. 1,000 accounts would have 15,000 SP.

@timcliff, so why isn't it possible to just block the initial steem for a power down? Don't you think that could make the registration much faster, if nobody has any reason to create hundrets of unused accounts?

That is part of what they are planning to change in hardfork 20, but they will still be getting 15 SP per account that they can vote with.

Hey @timcliff, i had a friend sign up a few days ago but hasnt recieved any confirmation yet - time isnt a problem, but he says the username he requested still says its available when he goes to sign up again. is this normal?

Yes. Approvals are taking up to / around 7 days right now. The username will remain available until the account is actually created on the blockchain.

@timcliff sorry for contacting you here.
I tried via steem.chat but I havent received any confirmation emails.
Same with my friends who registered a few days ago at SteemIt, after submitting the form they haven't received any confirmation emails as well.. are we having some issues with the registration? And is there anything else we can do from our end?

Thank you.

I’ve heard that is happening with a lot of people. I don’t know if it is an issue or not. If they were able to verify their phone number with SMS, then I would just wait the 7 days and see if they get approved.

Alright, thanks for the prompt response. Will just wait for a few days then. Thank you.
