Yeah It’s one those other jobs other than my day, actually Night Shift Nursing Staff
Finishing most of my Volunteer Tax filing work I’ve actually got a nice block of time free today to Book the Shared Car, drop off my roommate at the doctors and cash in my collected booty from over the last six weeks. Recycling is big business in British Columbia enacted by our overzealous provincial government in taxing everything that moves and it will be a matter of time before they tax cash savings and I will have to be forced to save “Off Grid” even more. I do this casual 'Binning thing' as a Cash Business and spend most of it on stacking more Silver.
And speaking of silver I made a modest Ebay Purchase of this pretty Piratey coin;
Republic of Portugal 10 Escudos 10 PTE
Catalog References: KM# 586, Schön# 44
This particular series was minted in 1954 and 1955 as general circulating currency.
The Weight is 12.5 grams at 0.680 purity nets 8.5 grams of Silver.
The Portuguese Shield over the Armillary sphere.
It has that classy old world feel to the character of this design a testament to this country's role in the course of economic history.
My Stacking Fund needs Cash!
Now what can this get me at my Bullion place, The Vancouver Bullion and Currency Exchange, VBCE on Pender Street or Granville Street. A place where @thedamus hangs out too.
But I want to be able to get more than two coins to make it worthwhile until then I’ll see how well I survive my huge Vet bill for my guard pet that thinks he’s a dog.
Dinner is pre-preppared to go and it’s almost time for a nap before my work shift tonight.
"Binning" = Tax free cash! And turning Aluminum cans into Silver!
“Et lux in tenebris to serve laboro, sum sicarius” “I work in the shadows to serve the Light, I am an Assassin”
When I was very young, I would buy a Bottle of Coke for 5 Cents... After drinking the Coke, I'd take the Bottle back to the Store and they'd give me a 3 Cent Refund... At least, that's how I remember it... lol...

3 Cents, It sure doesn't seem like much now in the current system, should your theory hold up that 3 cents will do well and "Binning" will get very very competitive and it won't just be done by junkies, crazies, homeless, near homeless, seniors-on-the-edge, little old Asian ladies and Gents, and one Goth girl anymore. I seemed to accumulating a huge pile of Canadian Nickels too.
My Theory only pertains to U.S. Coinage... It may be possible for Canada to follow our Lead with their Coinage... Usually good ideas tend to multiply...
So how many Canadians you know will have almost ten pounds of US coins? Not including US Constitutional silver.
You’re sitting prettier than most...
Nicely done. Spare time silver score
Every
pennyNickel (darn Inflation) helps. Every can and bottle I cash in is a satisfying spit in the Eye of The Powers That Be when I turn it into PMs! Arrrrh!hey im not very familiar with the lower mainland as I'm from the north, but I do know that good coin shops are hard to find!!
me and the kids visit a little coin shop in maple ridge every summer when I bring them down for vacation. Cant remember the name, its right beside Wanstalls in maple ridge. they sell "junk silver" coin there for melt plus $1
I've always loaded up on a handful when im around since I love filling bags of silver coin !!
I rarely head that far into Maple Ridge, I didn't know there being a coin shop there either. I should look it up just in case.
In Vancouver I go to J & M's on Broadway near Main Street in Vancouver, there are others but J&M has been in a Moving sale so Prices are reduced from their usual retail.
That's a pretty coin, goes well with the pirate brewski!
Ah yes the government that taxes everything that moves and tells us to trim the fat and tighten the belt while they live large on tax funded vacations playing Mr Dress-up around the world, lovely isn't it. Why I started stacking too, if the gov and the banks think I'm poor, and have next to no money in my account it's less tempting for them to ask for more taxes for whatever absurdities they can come up with.
I keep hoping that maybe one day we can once again enjoy our earnings and the fruits of our labor but as time goes on it starts to feel like a delusion.
Stack on Sister!
Should our government decides to BAN cash and say "Only criminals and terrorists use cash." Whats left of my Emergency reserves will go into PMs instantly.
Can you imagine that happening, This was tried in India already eliminating all high denomination notes and the hardship it caused.
It will be more than..."My Tenant's little kid can't open a Lemonaide stand until she buys a Moneris Mobile wireless POS Card reader itself for $100 and a business account running from $50+/month with Credit card companies taking a 6% off gross sales.
"Binning" will be treated with a Transaction card so as the CRA can track your income.
Hoping to resume Stacking operations as soon as I deal with a few unexpected major bills!
I can see that happening, gold and silver will become a must at that point, sorta why I stack in a sense, not to make money from it but to have a way out when everything is electronic and can be cut off whenever we don't conform to their nasty agenda. It will happen everywhere, just give it time.
Sad that kids can't even have lemonade stands anymore. How else do we teach them about providing a service and being entrepreneurs. Everything is about the rich making more money. A kid with a lemonade stand doesn't need a moneris terminal and a subscription, that's just nuts.
I saw about your ill pet, I hope it recovers quickly. Binning shouldn't be taxed or seen as income, besides it's not free money anyway, somebody paid for that deposit when it was purchased so it's more like a return for being an environment conscious citizen. Large reason I get good deal of coins with my bouillon, it's legal tender instead of a resource or product, less likly to get taxed or confiscation if all hell breaks loose. I saw a rumor that they are going to try to tax plastics.
Thank You for Sharing @kerrislravenhill I am sure I don't need to Tell you how I feel about PARASITES that Work for the government......
Bought a new hair dryer, recycled the broken one.
Get this, the bill includes a non-refundable $2 disposal fee plus a 5% Consumption tax on the fee and the hair dryer! That's Insane! Hair dryer, a vitally important part of a gal's hair care!!!!
I used to collect cans as a kiddo and take them to the recycling center for money, but eventually they stopped paying. It was a sad day.
My province BC always had a form of refund system as long as I can remember. Thanks to a "Green" political party that's pretty vocal about environmental issues and now we have a Deposit on electronics, Paints, plastic bags, etc but only Beverage containers get a refund.
I jokingly say at the Depot, "I didn't drink it all myself, I had help!"

That's a great way to make a bit of extra cash and spending it on silver is even better! Your finds in the coin machines has got me looking now too! 😉
Here's Binning Story when a person noticed I was fishing beer cans out a Public Recycling Bin at a Bus Stop.
"You poor thing...I bet you have kids ...please take this box of Pizza."
"No thank you sir, I'm quite okay my kids are okay..." I shouldn't of mentioned my kids as I am not destitute as he thinks I am. He continues to push the large box towards me.
"Take it Ma'am, It's really good and I'd just waste it, then your kids will enjoy it tomorrow, I insist!" With a smile.
He was right, and It was really good pizza.
Beautiful coin! And look at all those cans! Well done :D
You are doing this earth wonders for doing that, plus its extra cash so, go you!
This load was 806 beverage containers I managed to stuff into a small Honda. With our "Throw away" culture I think we still has a long way go in proper self sustaining recycling. The current deposit charge for a 10 oz Can of Pop is; the refundable deposit of $0.05, non-refundable Handling levy $0.02, plus 5% tax on the levy. And lots of people still throw them away.
