“My message is to never quit, never give up. When you have a little trouble here and there, just keep fighting. In the end, it will pay off.” Gabby Douglas
I think we all have been at the place in our lives when we start doubting the process and feel like giving up is the best way to go. Giving up seems like a relief at that moment but from my experience, it is only an illusion of relief.
For the short period of time, it gives us peace that the "fight" is over. In the long run, it transforms into regret.
When I came to the U.S. 6 years ago with $500 in my pocket and a big dream, I didn't expect that the desire to give up will come so fast. Within a month, I was already looking for a flight ticket back since I had a brutal homesick and I felt super sad. I was trying to trick myself into thinking that coming to America wasn't a smart move and I need to go back home when in fact, I was trying to find the way how to excuse myself from giving up.
All my friends and family were telling me to chill out and give it some time but I was ready to go. One week later, the family I worked for and I took a trip to Florida. As I was standing on the patio in my luxurious room in Ritz-Carlton hotel on Key Biscayne, something hit me. "Never forget why you started." That was it.
Hard times are part of the journey, especially the one which is going to be worth it. So I stayed. I don't know what type of awakening that was, but today I know that it was one of the best decisions I've made in a very long time.
With this being said, let me share with you 4 things we all need to understand before giving up.
1# Pain has its end
Since emotions play an important part in life and they can have an adverse impact in the time of crisis, let’s be logical for a minute. Have you ever experienced any pain which lasts and never ends? NO! Pain from not having enough money, pain from broken relationship or divorce, pain from failure always passes. It never stays forever.
Start focusing on the fact that pain or hardships will eventually pass. Maybe you don’t know when exactly, but it will. Is it worth giving up everything you have worked for because times got rough? I don’t think so. This is the time when you hold tight when you refuse to listen to your present disempowering feelings and start focusing on how you can to turn this situation around.
2# Strength is a reward from hardships
Have you ever looked up to someone and admire them for their strength and accomplishments? I bet because we all have our role models. Most of the people we respect today were in such a big shit hole; it is hard for us to imagine it.
Your present situation is here to teach you something, to strengthen you, to make you break through. Each difficulty you face is a test which is preparing you to become a bigger and better person. Some things which are painful now are building you up so you can handle the real deal once it comes along. Put your head up and press on.
3# You are what you believe yourself to be
I think that this concept, this attitude of believing is one of my favorite because it affects most of your life. If you believe that you are poor, you’ll stay poor. If you believe that you are an angry person, you will be an angry person.
One of my biggest beliefs was that since I was born in a poor family and grew up in a mediocre environment, this is who I am. What a ridiculous idea, isn’t it? I was defining myself with life circumstances. I believed that I was meant to lose in life.
This scary thought process is in the minds of most people. They get into troubles, they deal with hardships and begin to believe that this is their life destiny. It will, only if you believe it.
Start seeing yourself as someone you want to become. If you want to have wealth, see yourself as a wealthy person, if you want to have an amazing and loving relationship, see yourself as an incredibly loving partner. To resolve any difficulties in your life, you must start with your mind and what you believe is real.
4# Present doesn’t mean future
Any difficult situation you are at right now, whether it is your current financial status, relationship, career or your job is not the final picture of life. It is only a stage of life which you have to experience to grow and stretch out your courage. What you see now is not what you will see in a year. Life and this world are constantly changing, your life is in constant motion, and nothing is ever still.
Adopt this attitude, and you will always find a way out. You will be desperate and frustrated but then BOOM! A new opportunity comes along because you know that there is something more than your present circumstances.
I know it is easy to get consumed by hardships and negativity. But think about it. In a month, 3 months, 6 months, when you look back, more than likely you will be grateful that you didn’t give up today. Adopt these 4 empowering attitudes and work on a plan how to get out of the desperate situation you are at right now. Take action. Speed doesn’t matter. As long as you are moving forward, you are on the right track.

I think mindset and attitude has alot to do with giving up :) thanks for the motivational post
It certainly does. If your mind isn't in the right place, it's hard to keep going. I think that we need to become immune to rejection and temporary failure since they will show up once in a while. That's when many people give up. Thank you :)
Absolutely agree :)
Yet another amazing post from you.
Giving up occurs when one set his/her mind towards a sense of worthlessness which is often caused by the inability to see beyond the present.
People often forget that, current situation aren't the final.
Depression is one of the evident of giving up.
I love this post, it's similar to a post i wrote earlier on depression
You said it so well "inability to see beyond the present." Exactly. Patience is everything. We need to believe, we need to have a bigger picture in front of us. Believing means seeing something that isn't here yet. Thanks for sharing your opinion. Very valuable. :)
You're welcome
