I happen to catch this documentary a few days ago, and I have a few thoughts about it..
This documentary is mostly propaganda, punctuated with one straw man after another.. The filmmaker interviews a slew of people she claims are on "the front line" of the race wars in America." She chooses people who are nothing more than caricatures of what people would call "far right."
She opens with a minute long statement from Jared Taylor, no where near long enough to actually understand what he's about, or what his arguments are. Also, I don't doubt that this part is heavily edited, as is most interviews with Taylor. It may be turd in the latte of everyone with liberal think disorder, but its far from the cancer she's framing it as.
Jeff Schoep, "commander" of the national socialist movement is her next example, and she goes straight to referring to him as "far right." The beginning of her attempt to associate all republicans as racist.
While Jeff points out some valid arguments, he's obviously unstable and that's why she gave him and the others more time. She shows how Jeff believes the rise of Trump has strengthened their movement as if the 2 are actually connected. She's painting a picture that all Trump supporters are somehow tied to the neo Nazi movement. Keep in mind that Nazi is short for national socialist.. Which has nothing to do with being conservative, and everything to do with being socialist within your own people. In my opinion the only thing different between a national socialist and a socialist is who you're including and who you're excluding.
She goes on to try to make commander Jeff uncomfortable by reading off racist remarks others within the fringe racist groups have made to and about her. It works, but it only serves to feed into her idea that neo nazis and racists just haven't met the right person or color yet, and if white people just gave them a chance we could all live happily ever after. Tell that to the people in europe and Australia who go to speak to muslims in one of their "no go" zones.
Obviously anyone who joins a neo nazi movement, or dresses up as a "wizard" specifically because they hate another race, is not representative of most right wingers.. But it's a complex issue which can't be solved by racist white people extending the proverbial olive branch, or vice versa.
She interviews Mike Schloer, a former soldier and current security guard for the national socialist movement who goes on to talk about the inner demons he has.. She takes another member of this fringe group, who likely has PTSD, and tries to associate him with all conservatives as well.
Ken Parker, who is so obviously unstable.. Is her next example of what "far right" means. Just watching him, watching how shifty and off the wall this man is.. Its so obvious that this man had some issues.
One after another she shows examples that are not representative of the right. And she goes into details about their past, their childhood, their feelings.. She spends a significant amount of time on each of these.. But only gives Jared Taylor about 2 mins total.. I wonder why?
She chose weak and unstable people associated with these fringe movements because she knows they wont have a good answer or coherent response. To the average person, these people obviously look nuts.
By calling them far right, and referencing the "far right" in the title, she ties the racist straw man knot together. These people are racist, they're right wing, they're trump supporters.. therefore all right wing trump supporters are racist.
There's no doubt that these people exist, but they're not representative of the whole. There's nothing wrong with being white, and there's nothing wrong with white people wanting to preserve their culture.
In the end that's what's on trial here.. "White culture."
What she doesn't say, and what she doesn't show is much more important than what she does show. She doesnt talk about white culture as it exists outside of the fringe. That's why she only showed 2 minutes of Jared Taylor. If someone actually gave Jared a chance, they might find he's reasonable on quite a few ideas. They may also find that he could challenge her on a level the other interviewees couldn't.
From watching other interviews with Taylor, the impression I get is that he only wants to preserve his culture, and preserve freedom of association.. something we encourage for all ethnic groups in America, but somehow it's not ok if white people want to preserve their own culture.
It seems that we only want to destroy the culture we've had here for generations.. Always pointing out something from the past that white people need to atone for. Always finding reasons why that culture will end in atrocity.
The second a white person feels proud of any ancestral accomplishment, or proud to be part of that culture.. We immediately attack them as racist, but at the same time that culture produced a system that has been able to help more people, bring more people out of poverty than any culture in the history of the world.
I think people should watch this documentary, but pay attention to whats not given attention in the film.. It's glaringly obvious when you see how little time she gave to Jared Taylor as opposed to the others. Watch some of his videos and decide for yourself.
I'm not endorsing everything Jared Taylor says, but he has reasonable arguments, and leaving those out is an obvious attempt to lead people on a false journey to atone for issues they themselves had no part in creating, and placing the blame on all conservatives, using the crazy fringe elements to justify the blame.
If nothing else the documentary proves that even the fringe groups are more tolerant than the left would have you believe. While they may be part of a racist group, they're unstable, barely right wing and not nearly as intolerant once you get them one on one.
They're damaged, mentally ill people caught up in an ideology. Liberals should understand this very well, just take a look at feminism..
I'm gonna watch this.
I don't feel like reading this whole post.
