I know, I know. You're probably a bit surprised to see a post here on At Meme's Table about a topic other than food. But, in everything "there is a season." And, for me, this a season of trying to keep up with the million and one things going on in my life. Between writing for my blog, running a Vegan dessert and catering business, launching a new business with my husband, being a wife, mother and soon-to-be grandmother, my life can get a little hectic....to say the least!
Anyway, anything worth knowing, I learned at my Meme's Table. Lessons about healthier, delicious cooking, lessons on savvy gift shopping and lessons on life. One of the most important lessons that she taught me is that life can get complicated...if you let it. Here are just a five easy tips on keeping your life simple and organized so that you will have time to enjoy the important things in life!
TIP 1
Keep it real with yourself. If something is important to you, you will find time for it.
Lao Tzu said it best: Time is a created thing. To say ‘I don’t have time,’ is like saying, ‘I don’t want to’.
And, finding time often means streamlining and organizing the details of your life.
Get a Great Organizer!!
TIP 2
Step away from the television. They don't call it the "idiot box" for nothing. Now, I know that it may not be practical (or even desirable) for you to completely eliminate the television from your life but try to keep your screen time to a minimum. I admit that I've been known to binge on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Movies but, if truth be told, my time would have been better spent and far more enjoyable had I spent it on a walk with my husband or planting herbs in my garden.
Cut down on TV time. Increase real life time.
TIP 3
Identify and eliminate the distractions in your life. Do you really need to check your email 50 times a day? How much time do you spend checking and posting to FaceBook? Twitter? Instagram?
Because I am a master at convincing myself that I am missing something important by not checking email, FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram and the like every few minutes, I use a free productivity tool called WasteNoTime. This is a cool and free tool which blocks "time-wasting sites while you are working" which leads to increased productivity. Just one little caveat, be careful when setting up your work hours in this handy tool because WasteNoTime will automatically kick you out of a webpage if you've been on it too long. This can be irritating, but its a great reminder to get back on task.
Less time wasted means that I will have more time for the important things in my life.
TIP 4
You can't do everything or be everything to everyone. So, it's important to focus on the things that help you grow as a person. Learn more. Read more. Exercise more. Pray more. Serve more. Laugh more.
Take time to serve, learn, exercise, read, pray, laugh...to grow as a person.
TIP 5
Get a good organizer to keep up with all those little details in your life. Try as I might, it is impossible for me to remember all the little details that go into keeping my life on track. A post it here or a jotted note there will more often than not disappear within the black void that is my purse. A good organizer is a necessity for keeping up with my family and my professional life.
One of the best organizers that I've found is by Denise Albright! This great calendar is AMAZING quality!
Because I'm a visual person, the stickers help me see at a glance what's on my agenda. I've found it to be a great tool for keeping up with both the personal activities and the business activities that make up my life. This super tool is on sale at an amazing $30 off! It was $49.95, but if you order between 12/10 and 12/12, you can get it for the super low price of only $19.95 + FREE SHIPPING! And, it is available for shipping in time for Christmas giving. Don't tell my daughter, but I'm getting her one too! This is a great gift for a busy new mother. Or, in my case, it's a great gift for myself.
Hope these five easy tips I learned at my Meme's table help you focus on keeping your life organized and joyfully simple.
