Just got done watching this already short video and wanted to give it a quick recap for those who would find it valuable:
Matt (@starkerz) from @threespeak joined @cryptorichbtc to explain SPK network and the January 6th airdrop:
As a video platform, 3speak wants to "build themselves out of" the centralized point of failure to create a decentralized video protocol. They researched different projects and took the "best bits of them" to simplify a way to run IPFS that rewards users. Content delivery systems, encoder systems, all things they have been doing in a centralized way but are building it out as a protocol to act in a p2p way.
A year ago, they started building a proposal and presented 6 months ago the idea to the Hive community and directed part of the proposal fund to the project.
A "decentralized decision on a decentralized chain so we are not beholden to anyone but the Hive community in terms of execution of this project", which will be an "incentivized layer for web 3".
D.Buzz (twitter app) which will be working on it as well as an "NFT platform" that will be building on it, as well as Ragnarok, a game being released on the platform.
Currently on test net working out the nodes so people can run everything peer to peer.
They will be running test nets on dexs on peer plays they are going to use initially for the token system.
On January 6th, there will be a snapshot for SPK network. Anyone holding Hive in their accounts will be able to claim initially then once a month for a year to acquire the miner token , staking will earn mining rewards.
Then in "6 months or so" the mining of the governance token will kick off: You will have to stake the miner tokens and run either an encoder node or a storage node or content delivery node. They will make it easy to run from your computer. More advanced options of dedicated servers will be available.
Then people will be able to compete fairly to get their hands on the governance token. The protocol is intended to build 3speak out of the centralization of the system.
There will a portion unclaimed, that will go into a dao - community will vote on what to do with the unclaimed tokens.

@cryptorichbtc and @starkerz are 10% benefactors of this post.
Thank you for the summary! This made things more clear for me, especially the staking part
I am glad you found it useful! I am just trying to keep up, I figure I might as well share what I learn as I go down the rabbit hole!
You and me both :p Thanks again for sharing
Do you know if you will need to hold Hive throughout the claims process or only at the snapshot? Do the later claims take a penalty if everyone just dumps Hive on Jan 7th?
Prob at snapshot, but thats only speculation.
Any unclaimed will go to the SPK Dao. Not sure of a penalty.
My main question of concern is when do we need our computer to claim these tokens
I believe a month after the snapshot, I will follow up here if I find anything regarding that.
