Doing a bit of coin pushing

I'm not sure why, but I never really got into the coin pusher games like this when I was a kid. I was always more of a crane game guy. I remember going to my aunt and uncles for a couple of weeks one summer to work on the farm. It was hard work, but at the end of the day we would go to the county fair and I blew at least half my money on the crane game trying to win a knife.

I broke the knife shortly after I finally won it, but I will never forget it.

I was traveling this past weekend with @mrsbozz and I came across this cool old machine in a small ice cream shop I stopped in to get a chocolate malt. As soon as I saw the name I knew I had to take a photo for the #silvergoldstackers group. I was in a hurry because I was parked a little illegally, so I didn't take the time to try my luck.

It was still cool to see it and if you ever get the chance to watch some of the coin push videos on YouTube, they can actually be quite entertaining.

It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the community.

Speaking of Silver

I saw this article the other day talking about how they are coming out with a new coin in the US that will feature Celia Cruz. She is the first "Afro-Latina" woman to be featured on a piece of American currency.

She was considered the queen of salsa and that has earned her a spot on a special US quarters in the future.

I'm not going to plagiarize a photo to post here, but if you want to see what it is going to look like, feel free to follow the link I shared above. They have a photo of it there. Personally, I'm not that familiar with Cruz or her work, but I think it is cool that they are finally continuing to expand beyond dead presidents that had questionable records at best.

I think putting people who held cultural significance on currency is more likely to open conversation and educate others on who some of these icons were.

Things are getting interesting...

There's been a lot of speculation about how things are going to go come November in the United States. The general consensus is that if Trump gets elected it will be good for crypto and if Harris gets elected it will be bad. As much as I want to be rich, I'm not the type of person who can vote for a candidate based on a single issue. I'm holding out hope both sides will reach some kind of common ground in terms of digital currency. I still haven't decided how I am voting yet.

It looked like the left was starting to do a 180 for a second there, but then it was announced who the finance advisors would be for the Harris campaign and it isn't looking too good.

Two of them in particular Brian Deese and Bharat Ramamurti have been very outspoken in their distaste for cryptocurrency. How much do you want to bet they still hold some though? Personally, I wouldn't trust a single word that Trump says. I have zero doubt he will fire Gary Gensler if he gets elected, but beyond that I can also see him doing a 180 on his current crypto stance.

My hope is that like many others, these advisors for Harris can learn from their past misconceptions and learn to adapt to a changing world like many of us already have. Only time will tell...

LP's on WAX

I've been playing around with some of the liquidity pools available over on Alcor Exchange. It's a decentralized trading platform that also offers farm and staking opportunities for tokens/chains built on the EOSIO framework. I've been sitting on a decent amount of WAX since the last bull market. It's my fault for not moving more into stable coins, but there is nothing I can do about it now.

I was talking with some fellow WAX holders the other day and I was complaining mentioning, that I always forget when the liquidity pools end and then my tokens sit there locked up earning nothing. Someone else asked if you could automate the process (you can), but another person said the kind of see it as a game.

With so many play to earn games closing up shop or offering no return on WAX anymore, I can appreciate the viewpoint that moving funds around in LP's trying to find the best returns can be a bit of a game. I'm choosing to take that mindset to heart moving forward with my WAX tokens.

There are a ton of them out there, so if you are holding some WAX and some of the random project tokens (or the WUFF memecoin), you might want to check them out.

The Resurrection of LBI

To be fair, @lbi-token was never actually dead, but it was definitely in a bit of a hiatus as the bear market was brutal to many of us. It was necessary to stop paying dividends (it was actually voted on by the token holders), to ensure the continuation of the project.

Although my tokens haven't been earning me LEO as a dividend in a while now, they have been sitting in wallet doing a decent job of holding their value. Actually, as far as unstaked tokens go, LBI is in the top five of my holdings right now with a couple of asterisks.

The first being that you can't always trust the USD value that is represented in Hive Engine. It often is skewed by orders that have zero chance of ever getting filled.

Second, the DREIT token is basically dead, but that sits in the fifth place spot of my unstaked tokens. This goes back to the fact that a token can be listed as being worth anything, but if there is no one buying, it doesn't really matter one bit.

I recently pooled some of my LBI with some liquid LEO I had in the new LBI/LEO pool to eventually start earning some rewards. I'm looking forward to seeing what the future holds for LBI.

I think no one in gov will ever be for crypto. Trump and some in the GOP are pretending to be right now only because of votes. But if they win it will be the typical flip-flop on that particular issue. Crypto threatens banks and banks own too much of the US gov, so it will never happen.

I didn't know those coin pushing machines are in the US. I never saw any when I was growing up. They are very popular in Japan. Every game center has many of them, or variations on them with candy instead of coins, and many other businesses have one or two of them thrown in a corner somewhere.

I think the first time I saw them was at the fairs. No doubt they were quite rigged in that environment. It's been a long time since I have seen one outside of YouTube and then I just happened upon this one. I think you are right about the crypto thing. I just hope the crypto lobby ends up giving them no choice. No matter who wins.

Nice coin pusher! I haven't seen one of those in quite some time.

That's cool that they're putting Celia Cruz on a commemorative quarter. I still wish they would put Liberty back on there...

On Trump hopefully he's good to his word. I honestly don't trust any politician to do anything they promise. As the old joke goes, how do you know when a politician is lying? They're moving their lips.... It would be nice to have a real third option in this country, but there isn't one...

I agree with everything you said there. Having liberty on a coin would be cool. I also think that we don't have any good third options. It's just a hot mess and I have a feeling it is going to get worse. I see civil unrest reaching a peak no matter which way it goes.

Back when I was a kid (and thus too young to play the coin pushers in Vegas) I recall some that had a chute that allowed you to actually aim where the coin went. I wish I could find one like that now! The last couple times I was there, though, they all had a "flinger" mechanism so that no matter where you dropped the quarter, you had basically zero control over where it actually went. Which of course ensures the house edge, but removes all the fun for folks like me, who like a skill challenge.

Like you, I always preferred the claw machines, because they actually had an element of skill to them (and I got pretty darn good at 'em, too!).

By the end of that summer I was pretty good with the claw too. I remember it was designed like an old steam shovel, so it was really cool looking. That definitely sounds like a better version of the coin pusher, but like you said, the house always wins!

When I would visit the arcades I always used to throw away a few quid playing on coin pushers, I don't know why as I realised they function only to take a lot more than they give out. But it was still a little bit of a thrill losing money to those machines. But one thing you didn't tell us, was the Silver City functioning and did you have a go?

In relation to the upcoming US election yes I think you're right, Harris would not be a friend of crypto and even though Trump has not overly warmed to crypto either he seems to have shifted a little in the right direction.

I didn't get a chance to check it out. I had to get back to my truck before I got a ticket. As soon as my malt was ready, I was out the door!

I was a crane guy too, still am on occasion. LOL

Well if Cruz is going on the quarter then I should be getting a nice one eventually. Subsribed to receive Proof sets every year.

Oh, that is cool. I should look into something like that.

What? You park illegally? !LOL I'd be dead before I parked illegally, would you believe? My sorority sisters would dare me, but they never prevailed.
I think I will get some quarters (i.e., silver proofs), being that they are honoring women.

We were camping and the 2500 isn't the easiest to get in big spaces. It was only half illegal actually. My front end was mostly parallel with the curb.

Oh yeah I use to LOVE those coin pushers as well. It was always the first game I looked for at an midway I was at. have not played one recently though. Not a fan of the ones that push coins into a void then you get tickets on your play-card.

Oh yeah, that would definitely ruin it for me. If I want tickets I'll go to Chuckee Cheese or Dave and Busters thank you very much!

Personally, I wouldn't trust a single word that Trump says.

We can agree on that. The guy is just desperate for attention and may have been told that crypto is popular with the young. Given what he has promised in other areas and the Project 2025 thing I think he would do incredible harm if elected again. Okay, it's not my country, but what happens in the US affects the world.

My family love the coin pusher machines. They tend to have them in the arcades at the seaside. You can get a load of 2p coins and pass a few minutes losing them all and maybe getting some cheap plastic junk. I don't play the slot machines, but then I'm no gambler.

Are play to earn games not taking off? Obviously Splinterlands has had some issues and stuff there lost a lot of value. I don't follow what happens on other chains.

Yeah, it's interesting because so many people are hanging their hat on stuff he says and I think they are going to get burned. Quite honestly, it's going to be a hot mess no matter what happens. I can already see it coming. It seems the world is just as split on him. I know people from outside the US who think he was one of the best presidents we ever had, and then I know others like you.

Play to earn has just been messy. There are a lot of moving parts and I think companies are still learning how to navigate all of them. Sadly, many have failed or are in the process of failing. As you said, even Splinterlands hasn't been able to sustain their success. Some of that has to do with the bear market which just adds another cog to the wheel for many companies.

I've always wanted to try one of the high limit coin pushers. I remember seeing a casino with $1000.00 buying for the pushers. But you could win gold bars and cash rolls and stuff.

No way, that is crazy! I don't think have ever seen anything like that. I've seen cellphones and stuff online, but that's about it.

I was never a fan of those coin machines, they were always a scam lol. I was more a fan of skee-ball myself!

Who knows what’s going to happen in November. I think national elections are the worst ones to think anything that isn’t planned will happen. They have the most control at the national level.

Yes! Skeeball for the win. I love me some skeeball!
