The pebbles on the dungeon’s floor felt like spikes in her naked foot, and the uneven steps from her missing boot made the already chaotic escape even more difficult. She didn’t want to look back, but it wasn’t needed, she had seen what chased her, and it was something she couldn’t deal with by herself.
And so she ran, jumping cracks in the floor, avoiding arrows (though one grazed her side), and hearing the rough screams that promised an axe to fall in her neck. In her purse, the old tome danced sharply, and she could almost feel it begging for some peace and quiet, but oh no you piece of hard-earned paperstuff!, she is too busy to just sit and read you!.
She could see some light ahead, and a nervous smile grazed her lips, “finally!” she tough, and a rush of joyful adrenaline made her faster than the threatening screams, she was going to escape!. Or so it seemed. At the exact same moment the sun’s rays blinded her lavender eyes, her bootless foot stepped on air and empty space, and she fell.
Too surprised to scream, she barely managed to grab a hold onto the sudden cliff’s edge. Her tired and not-so-strong arms struggled to raise her up, to not fall into the dark bellow, but she couldn’t, and before a second passed, they were right by her. Big, muscled, covered in furs and beards, with eyes filled with a mad glee, the people who destroyed her past.
Well little pest, before you give us the Tome, you die by falling or by axe?.
