Pollution In Lagos City.

in Hive Learners4 days ago

There is a silent enemy that lurks in the shadows of our cities, poisoning the air we breathe and the world we live in. Many people will not know about this because their body systems have already adapted to this kind of poisoning; some even see it as a normal thing. This enemy is none other than pollution. The gas pollution from cars and the relentless noise pollution are constant reminders of the challenges we face in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

I live in Lagos, a vibrant city filled with life and energy. But in the hustling and running, the pollution is nothing to write home about; many people living in Lagos have already accepted this kind of life, even if it is a danger to their lives. Lagos is a populated city with millions of people living in it. While the people live in Lagos, the number of cars that drive on the road on a daily basis is so high that gas pollution from cars and noise pollution are the major sources of pollution in the city.

The gas pollution from the countless cars on the roads fills the air with a thick. Some cars and buses can be so bad that the gas coming from them would be so black and thick. Many people that go out daily inhale this on a daily basis and most of them don't go to the hospital to check what is wrong with them. Apart from the gas pollution, for people who have their houses close to the main road, the constant honking and rumble of engines add to the pollution.

The place I live, everyone in the neigborhood has very loud generator, I am always sad when the electricity goes off because in split seconds, the noise from generators will be head all over the estate. For people who are not staying in soundproof house like me, and who also love to leave their window open, the noise can be very annoying.

The sad part is that Lagos City is always awake. If the electricity goes off by 1 am, the noise pollution would start and there are many nights I have lost my sleep because the noise from the generator was so much which caused me headache many times.

Most time when I am on the road, I find it hard to breathe which is why I always go out with noise mask but we can't completely block all the gas from entering our system. Using nose mask is one of the method I have implore to battle the bad gas we all inhale on the road of Lagos.

Measures have been taken to tackle these issues, with initiatives.
There is no way to control the noise pollution when you are on the road because you can't stop every car or bus driving on the road, but when I am home there are ways I control the noise. What I do is close my window and reduce the amount of noise that enters my room. I love to keep my window open because of the fresh air but if the noise started, I would close the window and put on my standing fan.

That way, I won't feel too much heat and I would be able to sleep peacefully.

In conclusion, there are better ways to control this pollution and that depend on the place you are and if you can get some gadgets that can help you control them. The two major pollution in my city is not something I see that would be ending anytime soon unless a miracle happens and we don't need petrol again. This is something the government would never allow to happen.

Na all kind of craze dey Lagos. The noise from generating sets is one, how about the noise from a bunch of young adults playing loud music at night after getting high? Despite that, Lagos is trying to curb noise pollution compared to other states.

Recently, I tried reporting a hotel close to my home that brings a live band to disturb the whole neighborhood every Friday night. I checked the website of the Ministry of Environment in my state, there was no provision for reports of such. I mailed them six months ago about the issue. I'm yet to get a reply of any sort.

Bro, just tell me you live in Lagos, because you said it all. Only someone who has lived in that city would have this much information.

Thank God they stopped churches and mosques from using louch speakers.

The truth is that, no one is ready to do anything especially if it is not affecting them. There are times I am so tired of lagos state.

I stayed at Ikorodu area for about eight months. That place is swarming with all kind of crazy noisemakers. They did well with the noise from churches and mosques though. Those ones make Fridays and Sundays terrible days.
