Here's my entry for the BeerSaturday 376 with a brewery called Brasseurs des Collines (Brewers of the Hills) that I discovered during my weekend camping at Lac Simon (see Wednesday Walk Challenge: Sentier du Marais, Lac Simon). It was indeed on the way to Saint-André-Avellin to fill up on beers at Brasse-Camarade, the choice was really impressive. But my eyes fell on this Irish redhead called Rousse du Pont Rouge (Red Ale of Red Bridge).
Voici ma participation au BeerSaturday 376 avec une brasserie les Brasseurs des Collines que j'ai découverte lors de mon weekend camping au Lac Simon (voir Wednesday Walk Challenge : Sentier du Marais, Lac Simon). C'est en effet sur le chemin à Saint-André-Avellin pour faire le plein de bières au Brasse-Camarade, le choix était vraiment impressionnant. Mais mes yeux se sont arrètés sur cette rousse irlandaise nommée Rousse du Pont Rouge.

Here is the map of Quebec where I can show you precisely the location of the brewery. The Brasseurs des Collines is located in Chelsea, Outaouais, just north of Ottawa. The brewery is in the heart of the region known as MRC des Collines, hence the name.

The Brasseurs des Collines was founded by Dominique Gosselin and Martin Gravel, two veterans of the Quebec brewing scene. Dominique Gosselin, the brewmaster, was the brewer for 13 years at Brasseurs du temps in Hull. He wanted to redirect his career, but met Martin Gravel, sommelier and beer columnist. They decided to launch their own beers with 100% Quebec ingredients in Chelsea in 2022. They opened their own premises in the summer of 2023, a brewery with a 35-seat tasting room and terrace in summer. Les Brasseurs des Collines offer a dozen beers, including this Irish Red Ale.
Les Brasseurs des Collines est l'idée de Dominique Gosselin et Martin Gravel, deux anciens du monde brassicole québécois. Dominique Gosselin, le maitre brasseur, fut le brasseur pendant 13 ans chez les Brasseurs du temps à Hull. Il voulait réorienter sa carrière mais il rencontra Martin Gravel, sommelier et chroniqueur de bières. Ils décidérent de lancer leurs propres bières avec des ingrédients 100% québécois dans la ville de Chelsea en 2022. Ils ont leur propre local depuis l'été 2023, une brasserie avec une salle de dégustation de 35 places et une terrasse pour l'été. Les Brasseurs des Collines proposent une douzaine de bière dont cette rousse irlandaise.
🍺 Tasting / Dégustation :
The Rousse du Pont Rouge is an Irish red ale with 5% alcohol and an IBU of 30. It's one of the first beers brewed by the two friends. All the ingredients come from Quebec: malt produced in Sherbrooke, caramelized wheat from Maltbroue malting plant and Magnum hops from Houblonnière Lupuline of Isle-aux-allumettes. It's really interesting to have this kind of precise information. In the glass, we see a beautiful, almost black color with a light foam. To the taste, there's a nice bitterness with a slight caramelized edge. Very good beer... it makes me want to try other beers from Brasseurs des Collines.
La Rousse du Pont Rouge est une rousse irlandaise avec 5% d'alcool et un IBU de 30. C'est une des premières bières brassées par les deux amis. Tous les ingrédients proviennent du Québec, malt produit à Sherbrooke, blé caramélisé de la malterie Maltbroue et houblon Magnum de Houblonnière Lupuline de l’Isle-aux-allumettes. C'est vrai intéressant d'avoir ce genre d'information, très précises. Dans le verre, nous avons une belle robe presque noire avec une mousse légère. Au gout, nous retrouvons une belle amertume avec un léger côté caramélisé. Très bonne bière... cela me donne l'envie d'essayer d'autres bières des Brasseurs des Collines.
Design
I don't know who's behind the design, but very well done. But this Red Bridge Red refers to the Wakefield Gendron Covered Bridge built in 1915 but destroyed by fire in 1984. It was rebuilt in 1998 using the same materials as the original, Douglas fir. Here's a photo of the bridge from eseaupatrimoine.ca
Je ne sais pas qui se cache derrière le design, mais très réussi. Mais cette Rousse du Pont Rouge fait référence au Pont couvert Gendron de Wakefield construit en 1915 mais détruit par le feu en 1984. Il fut reconstruit en 1998 avec les mêmes matérieux qu'à l'origine, des pin de Douglas. Voilà une photo du pont provenant de Reseaupatrimoine.ca :

There is a different pleasure in drinking beer with friends in a secluded place.
Unfortunately, there is a single cane of beer. Anyway, Saturday is most suitable for parties also because there is no tension of going to the office the next day.

Great design and good looking beer. I love when they put back up old bridges that have been destroyed. My community just approved a project to replace a burned down bridge with a new covered one. I like the way the slanted grill kind of matched the angle of the white info section on the label 😜
