And like every time, here is the map of Quebec where I can show you precisely the location of the brewery. we stay west of Montreal to the town of Lachute in the Laurentides (not far from Montreal) to visit the Brasserie Sir John. This summer I went to their brewery to eat and to have a couple of beers, see photos BeerSaturday 373.
Et comme à chaque fois, voici la carte du Québec ou je peux vous montrer précisément la localisation de la brasserie. Aujourd'hui, nous restons à l'ouest de Montréal pour aller dans la ville de Lachute dans les Laurentides (pas très loin de Montréal) pour visiter la Brasserie Sir John. Cet été, je suis passé par leur brasserie pour y manger et prendre une ou deux bières, voir les photos BeerSaturday 373.

*As a reminder, this is not the first time I've talked about this brewery. The Sir John is named after Sir John Johnson, an American officer and politician (1742-1830) who was loyal to the British crown during the American Revolution and later settled in the Lachute region. As the name sounded good when it was created in 2019 by Joêl Dupras and Maxime Hébert, Sir John was kept. They didn't know much about brewing, but they loved good beers, especially the New England IPAs produced in New York and Vermont. Now they have over 200 recipes to their name. They learned fast 😀.
Pour rappel, comme ce n'est pas la première fois que je parle de cette brasserie. Le Sir John est nommée d'après Sir John Johnson, officier et homme politique américain (1742-1830) loyaliste à la couronne britannique pendant la Révolution américaine et installé après dans la région de Lachute. Comme le nom sonnait bien lors de la création en 2019 par Joêl Dupras et Maxime Hébert, Sir John fut gardé. Ils ne connaissaient pas grand chose dans le brassage mais aimaient les bonnes bières surtout les New England IPAs produites à New-York et au Vermont. Maintenant, ils ont plus de 200 recettes à leur actif. Ils ont vite appris 😀.
🍺 Tasting / Dégustation :
The Ô Captaine, Mon Capitaine is an Oat Cream Pale Ale with 5% alcohol hopped with Citra, El Dorado and Simcoe with a touch of lactose. For the record, this beer was created to help the Jérémie Paradis Foundation, which helps young athletes in the Lachute region to achieve their sporting potential.
In the glass, you'll see the characteristic colour of Oat Cream, with its cloudy yellow hue due to (or thanks to) the presence of lactose. The foam is very light and disappears fairly quickly. On the palate, the taste is light and pleasantly fruity with a hint of bitterness. I've been enjoying this type of beer for some time now, with a nice balance between the bitterness of an IPA and the sweetness provided by the touch of lactose.
La Ô Captaine, Mon Capitaine est une Oat Cream Pale Ale avec 5% d'alcool houblonnée avec du Citra, du El Dorado et du Simcoe avec une touche de lactose. Pour l'histoire, cette bière fut créée pour aider la fondation Jérémie Paradis, qui aide aux jeunes sportifs de la région de Lachute afin qu’ils puissent s’accomplir dans le sport.
Dans le verre, on retrouve la robe caractèristique des Oat Cream avec cette couleur jaune et trouble à cause (ou grâce) à la présence de lactose. La mousse est très légère et disparait assez vite. En bouche, elle a un goût léger et agréablement fruité avec une pointe d'amertume. J'apprécie ce type de bières depuis quelques temps avec un bel équilibre entre l'amertume d'une IPA et la douceur apportée par la touche de lactose.
Design
The design pays tribute to Jérémie Paradis, a 14-year-old hockey player who died too soon. We see his back with his cape and his number 99. Now the foundation that bears his name helps young people to get involved in sport by providing equipment or financial resources to help them pursue their dreams. And on a cultural note, the name of the beer is a reference to the famous poem by Walt Whitman, so it's always good to learn from a good beer.
Le design rend hommage à Jérémie Paradis, un jeune hockeyeur de 14 ans parti trop tôt. On le voit de dos avec sa cape et son numéro 99. Maintenant la fondation qui porte son nom aide les jeunes à s'investir dans le sport en apportant du matériel ou des moyens financiers pour la poursuite de leurs rêves. Et petit point culturel le nom de la bière fait référence au fameux poème de Walt Whitman, toujours bien d'apprendre en buvant une bonne bière.
