You may have seen that I spent most of last week in Berlin. I've been there a couple of times before. The first was in 1989 when I traveled up there from the Black Forest where I was living. I was there for a few days around the time the wall was coming down. Definitely interesting.
Beer Saturday ChallengeThis post is about #beer and will be entered into the run by @detlev.
I generally try to drink the beers of whatever country I am in and Germany has so many to try.
On our first full day we went to a gig where I drank some Berliner Pilsner. I didn't get a picture of this one. It was okay as a refreshing drink whilst enjoying the music, but I can't say it was anything special. At least it was local.
On the next day we were out sightseeing and ended it with dinner at a Weihenstephaner restaurant in Hackeshen Markt. Three of us had different beers that all came in different glasses. I had the Vitus Weizenbock that was very nice, but the others were good too.
We ate in the next day, so I picked up some beer at the supermarket. I was in the mood for a dark beer and went for Paulaner Hefe-Weissbier. This is another Bavarian beer, and not as dark as I expected. It had some similarities to the Vitus. I'd have them both again.
The host of our AirBnB left us some snacks that included these nuts. They were definitely spicy, so you needed some beer to wash them down.
Our final full day had more sightseeing after I had done a parkrun. It was a bit wet in the late afternoon, so we retired to a bar in the Nikolaiviertel (old Berlin). This was a big place called Brauhaus Georgbraeu](https://brauhaus-georgbraeu.de/en/) who brew their own beer downstairs. I just went for a small one, but it was very nice.
It was a little early to eat, so we wandered a little more to see some of the sights lit up in the dark and decided to return to a place we went to on our last visit a couple of years ago. Samadhi is a vegetarian Asian restaurant near the Brandenburg Gate. The food there is great and not too expensive. Dining out was generally pretty reasonable for a big city. I ended the trip with another Berliner beer, but this time it was their dark variant. This was a proper dark beer with a caramel taste. It was good, but not my favourite. I just found it a bit too much in a way.
I'm not a heavy drinker and am quite happy to just have one beer with a meal, but I try to make it a good one. I think I did pretty well on this trip. I'm sure the Germans will tell me I should have had some others.
Prost!

Do they do anything like flights over there? At the craft breweries here you can get a small glass of 4 to 6 beers and try a bunch of them. Then if you like one you can get a pint of it. It is a pretty cool concept. It's not every place that has that though. Those look like some good beers you tried out.
I expect they do tasting selections in some places. Some of the bars just have a couple of different beers. I just see no reason to drink the big international brands
Some of them can be good if you are just looking for a nice cheap go-to. I typically gravitate towards the craft brews myself though. Unless they have PBR on tap, then I pretty much always get PBR.

Prost! Those look delicious... The Dood's dieting and beer is definitely off the diet, my mouth is watering right now!
Sound's like you're having a great time in Germany! Safe travels @steevc
I'm back home now. Had fun there.

I'm not a big drinker of German beer - too dry for my tastes, but have had some really nice ones from small brewers. Those last two look nice and dark.
Some of these were a world away from what we might call lagers. Very rich taste.
Wow this is like having a beer with you and @slobberchops and @detlev
I will have to open a real cryptopub and have you guys over for a session.
That sounds like fun. I'll have a pint!
That is one thing I most definitely enjoyed about Germany was all the different beers there was to try. It seems like every city has a different kind/style of beer they call there own and then every pub in the city has a different take on the beer.
Had a lot of fun in Germany and am looking forward to going back one day as I spent most of my time there in the Southern part when visiting my brother.
I've heard there's 1000 breweries just in Bavaria. That's enough for a lifetime
I hope you enjoyed it ! It looks great 👍.
Where are you based ? SF?

In the UK just north of London. Berlin was fun, despite the cold.

You should try BRLO craft beer and not the industrial or Bavarian stuff. Cheers :-)

Apart from the fact the Bavarian stuff is the best in the country it is better to drink it in the secret capital of Germany @steevc lol
I didn't see that one this time. Maybe next time.
You asked for a German comment, didn’t you? Coming directly from Berlin :-) Sorry, didn‘t realise you’re in Berlin. Next time I’ll show you

I wasn't sure who was around there and I was with other people anyway. Maybe next time.
