AAA review: BPM (Beats per Minute) (2017), Gay Rights Movement in France

in #aaa5 years ago

“Beats per Minutes”, missed the Golden Palm of Cannes, which made many people feel sorry. The rhythm of this movie is just like the name of the movie, which is the strong beat of the dance music and the blood hitting the heart. The drum sound is 120 beats per minute. This is a passion. The embarrassing story is about rights, politics, struggle, and abandoning prejudice and identity. The masterpieces about AIDS are not uncommon. If you say, "Call Me by Your Name (2017)" is a kind of tenderness, more than even sex-free love, then this movie is much rougher. By the way, I have already wrote a movie review about “Call Me by Your Name“ a few days ago, if you are interested in, please go to my homepage, you will find it.

Additionally, this movie only looks at the passion inside gay, mixed with death and despair. In fact, due to the subject matter, this movie sometimes makes people think of "Dallas Buyers Club(2013)", because both of them are talking about the fight against AIDS. The story is equally about fighting for rights and defeating prejudice, but they have very different perspectives.

"Dallas Buyers Club" explores from the outside with straight men's eyes, and the most typical trait of “Beats per Minutes” is to peep inside. The perspectives from this movie is within the gay circle. And the stories of this movie is within the gay circle. And the secrets of this movie is within the gay circle. The details and conditions of the mind from the perspective of the gay are different from the outside world. Sometimes, you might even think that this is like a documentary. Some people walked into their assembly site and activity center without any intervention. They applaud when they agree, and they screamed when they oppose it. In this movie, those gay are shouting on the streets, throwing a pack of scarlet fake blood against people and companies they think are hypocritical. From this point of view, rather than saying that this is a carefully woven story, it is more like an opportunity for the outside world to witness their real situation.

Movie Trailer from youtube

The story is divided into two sections, the first half showing the group image and the second half focusing on the individual. In the early 1990s, Act Up, which is the anti-Aid organization in Paris, tried to arouse the public's attention to AIDS in various ways. They and the pharmaceutical companies saw it, went to school to publicize, and shout on the streets. While at the same time, the new entrants inside the organization Nathan and the radical member Sean fell in love and accompanied Sean in the final journey of life in struggle and love. It is pretty awesome movie for whom care about the gay rights.
