southers' Film Review: The Notebook (2004), Dream-Like Classic Romantic Love Story

in #aaa5 years ago

"The Notebook" is a classic romantic love film co-produced by Lynn Harris and Mark Johnson in 2004. Director Nick Cassavetes gave the film richness on the basis of ensuring the fluency of the story. The picture elements, the vivid emotional expression, and the pure performance are the key factors to win the best MTV movie award. The film tells a love story that spans a long time. This story is written in a dimly lit notebook, told by an old gentleman over and over again in a nursing home. The old lady always listens quietly, curiously asking questions. The beautiful handwriting on the notebook records the love that happened in that summer. Allie is born in a rich family and she came to the town with her family for holiday.

In a dreamy playground, Noah was married. Noah has no money, but lives very happy. Allie learned freedom and laughed at him, and the two quickly fell in love. However, under the obstruction of Allie's parents, the two people who fell in love were separated at the end of the summer. With Noah’s 365 letters being secretly hidden, Allie finally gave up waiting after seven years. Just the day before she was about to enter the church, she suddenly saw a white house that Noah had promised to build for herself. All memories slowly began to wake up. The overall style of "The Notebook" gives a feeling of comfort and tranquility. The development of the story is also dominated by the notebook of the elderly. The elderly will tell a story of a notebook in the notebook at the table, by the river or on a bench. In addition to restoring the scenes depicted in the notebook, one of the highlights in the film is the way of interlude. While watching the film, the lens will shuttle back to the old man who is telling the story. The reality and the memories are interspersed, giving a real feeling.

The director pays great attention to the color and lens style of the whole film. The film uses a large number of medium shots and distant shots to express the romantic texture of the male and female protagonists crossing the long history. The frequent use of the close-up shots is complete and smooth. The subtle changes in the expressions on the faces of the male and female protagonists show vivid emotions. The film uses a high-saturation format and bright warm-toned elements to mobilize the mood of the audience, making the entire film an immersive viewing experience. In the movie "The Notebook", the favorite song of the heroine Allie is the musician "Cune Minor Prelude" by Chopin. In the movie, Allie’s only two piano plays are the ones selected. The film played this most tragic piece by the heroine at two most critical moments, making the two story clues perfected by the heroine Allie’s "E Minor Prelude".

Throughout the film "The Notebook", the director's romantic lens language not only makes the whole picture dynamic and full of characters, but also applies the two-line narrative technique naturally and smoothly, and integrates the two stories organically. People have a long-lasting shock and a thorough understanding of love. Because of this unique and romantic narrative structure, the film has been followed by many love-type films. The film has found a new meaning in the traditional type, giving deep impressions and reflections on love. At the same time, it awakens the hope and yearning for the fairy tale love in the hearts of adults. To a certain extent, "The Notebook" is a dream-like classic film worth watching repeatedly in the American love type film.

My Score is 7/10
