More abuse and scamming, but at least it is not on steemit this time!
Recently, I was talking to @daveks, and he mentioned "WEKU." He said it was similar to steemit, so I decided to at least take a peek. Well, I peeked, but I sure did not like what I saw.
SORRY GUYS, YOUR NAME IS TAKEN
Unfortunately, @papa-pepper can't have the "papa-pepper" name over on weku, even if he wanted to. Guess what, here's a short list of other who won't be getting their username either.
@ausbitbank
@gtg
@gandalf
@fyrstikken
@johalfiles
@krystle
@roelandp
@little-peppers
@ats-david
@berniesanders
@donkeypong
@kevinwong
@inertia
@dlive
@drakos
@abit
@bitcoinparadise
@contentjunkie
@smooth
@dan
On the bright side, he forgot the "-" when he registered "@canadiancoconut," so her name isn't taken.
If you're wondering how your username got registered, you may have a pretty good guess. Click here to follow the link.
Of course, I might be jumping the gun on this one. Perhaps you all already signed up, and decided to take your 100 WEKU sign up bonus and transferred it to the scammer. As I said earlier, at least his activities over here have stopped for the most part. How long do you think it'll take him to crash his main account to a -10 over there? Some things never change.
Also, if you are not listed above, you may want to click here to sign up just to secure your username for future use in case you ever want it. Weku looks like a clone of steemit, but all you need is an email address to sign up. Therefore, the usual scammers are hard at work generating new accounts to get the sign up bonuses. Hopefully your name is not on their "to do" list.
Until next time…

I am just seeing this post now.
My name WAS taken -- he registered me with and without the hyphen. He's got me registered here on Steemit without the hyphen too.
Seems to me that Weku is already doomed because they did not come up with a way to verify that it is the real user if a name already exists on Steemit.
sorry to be the bringer of the bad news, should have told you a couple of days earlier when I found out, but i was dealing with witness server needed to be fixed and whatnot lol
Thanks for messaging me today on Discord about it.
good
I fear that would be the case when more of these sites pop up. I managed to nab my name on one other site I forget which one it was. To be honest I don’t think I’ll be able to keep up on all the new sites so for the most part I’ve not even been looking or checking.
It is kind of like companies having to nap all the top-level domains come up even if they never want to use it. Otherwise some troll or camper will take it and either demand money or miss use it and try to scam people.
It does make me wonder. Will this make Steemit the source to confirm identity’s on other sites that are similar? Since how would people really know unless it states here that is the real you over there.
If anyone claims to be a time traveling cat on another site that is not me. Well may they have 1000 years of bad luck and misfortune!
LOL - I hear you. I was mostly curious and taking a peek, but then I realized what had happened. I was wondering why he hadn't grabbed @pfunk too, but the realized that it looks like he's building a bid bot over there under the username @pro. Looks like the WEKU team is beginning to investigate, but guys like that will be hard to ban or exclude.
Wow, someone even took my handle @d-pend! I thought I might have been lucky. Probably he used a list and prioritized taking all the account names on Steemit that have higher reputation numbers.
What's the point behind this clone, beyond a money grab? Is there some underlying different philosophy in how they'll choose to develop things and do you know who is behind its creation?
Edit: I see that there is a referral system, so right off the bat that's one major difference.
I signed up as @real-papa-pepper and made a PSA over there. Hopefully it'll help them curb such abuse.
I decided to create @real-d-pend as well. Someone took the handle @d-pend and is plagiarizing my content/impersonating me :-(
Edit: Found out who it is, someone named @theheavyman on Weku. Looks like whatever was intended for this site, it's quickly becoming a scammer's paradise.
Scammers paradise? Don't say that too loud. I figured that even this PSA might send more over there to grab what they can get.
@cervantes i think too have a fake account, I will do an investigation about it and I will talk with the weku team about this list of users who have had similar problems.
Good idea. I wouldn't be surprised.
This is the first I've heard of this WeKu site... looks like the interface is directly copied from steemit?
I went ahead and used @daveks' referral link that you posted, guess I'll try to figure out what advantages this WeKu site has (if any)
For anyone checking it out, I am @kadoka on WEKU now, too.
Yeah, I figured I'd use his referral link. I signed up and made a WARNING post under @real-papa-pepper over there, but I'm not looking to rake in the referral bonuses. If I was, I could probably just created 1000 accounts and refer myself every time and get all the sign up bonuses... but not everyone is like that.
The fact that it's that easy to game the system to gain influence does not bode well for its future potential as a social media earning site (nor its monetary valuation.) It reminds me of the hundreds of sites that existed before Steemit/crypto that were based on pyramid structure referrals to earn, though it is different I suppose.
Unless something changes my mind, I have a pretty unfavorable view on referral programs because it tends to attract the wrong types of people to the community, or interests them for the wrong intentions. Doesn't seem that sustainable in the long term.
Looks like @ats.david, @pfunk and others had their names used to power up his @pro upvote bot over there. Over 46,000 WEKU already in the WEKU POWER.
😒 Yeah that seems like a major oversight if users can grab money just by registering a bunch of usernames.
At cursory first glance, looks like a scammish and lazy attempt to milk Steemit's success with a low-effort clone. Just made my account to see if I can find out more. If my intuition is off I'll redact that first comment :-P
Post From WEKU team:
We are investigating fake accounts. Please try to only sign up one account per person. Don't cheat.
Please trust us and all contributors to the WEKU platform will be rewarded.
Thank you for your support!

Sounds like a lot of work to ban all those accounts and repossess the referral money.
Just saw that. Left a comment on it.
I just heard of it 2 days ago, so I went to check it out and I couldn’t believe how similar it was to Steemit. I mean, it’s literally a clone of Steemit.
🎶 Oh my goodness!! Say it ain’t so!! I think we went full Noganoo!! 🎶
#fullnoganoo
I wish it wernt so....
I noticed so many popular Steemit names taken. I am not popular so my name wasn't taken. Hehe.
Another one is jwolf who the real jwolf created @realjwolf
Man, that's getting sad.
Yeah, scammers found a way to scam and deceive people.

Lol, what else is new!
Thanks. I got mine from the @daveks link.
Don't know what I'm getting into.
I'm just doing this in a bus.😎
At least your name will be YOUR NAME if you ever want it.
Yes. God knows how many accounts are taken.
I read they are trying to do something.
https://deals.weku.io/community-deals/@fang/regarding-the-issue-of-automatic-account-registration-using-bots-notice-from-the-weku-team
Thanks, I'll check that out.
You're welcome
Not popular enough to have my name taken 🤣😭
Too bad, maybe next time, LOL! Maybe you just didn't make the right enemy yet.
I haven't join weku, but there is another web called dream which has the same interface of steemit. havw alook, i had sign up there, but lost my password. .lol
Being big enough to have people want to pretend to be me is my dream
It was actually more of a "hit list" of enemies.
Fascinating. My name was still there and I got it. Thanks for the heads up.
Now we have a total of 4 fully functioning cryptocurrency blogging sites.
Freaking amazing.
Edit: 100% clone to the point where autocorrect tries to fill in things that exist on this site because it can't tell the difference.
What are the other two?
By the way PolyAlpha is supposed to be kickin' off I think in January? It will supposedly be a secure communication platform that's blockchain built offering the POLY token........... check it out. I found it advertized via steemhunt.
Trybe.one
Scorum.com
Thank you!
Since I am not famous my name was not taken..lol
But yeah referral program always give me doubts. But lets see.
Well mister @papa-pepper, thanks for the heads up. I headed over there to claim my name right away. Luckily, I'm not a big enough fish to have my name stolen yet! Gave you a follow over there, though I'm not sure what I'll do with that place yet.
I'm not sure either, but they are off to a pretty bad start.
I've heard about Weku and I had no interest in signing up at all, but after reading this post, I rushed to secure my name, just in case.
And now I'm thinking, is this something me/we "have to do" every time when new, similar platform shows up? :/
I hear you on that. From name abuse to "copy-cats" pretending to be you, it could get pretty bad.
Nice watching out.
I guess it only takes one shade ball to mess it up.
Noganoo!!!!
Take your crows elsewhere!
Thanks brother I went over and nabbed mine as well under @daveks as well. Amazing the sites clone look to steemit? Don't know anything bout' WEKU? More than likely won't be over there much if at all but hey I have an account thanks to you!
Yeah, I don't know much either, other than the same old scammers appear to be up to the same old stuff.
Yeah, it's sad to see. Who knows though maybe there's something to this "WEKU" ....... my $'s on steem though! Preeeesh as always!
Thanks. I claimed my name there. I won't use it as a secondary source of crypto or digital income for the same content.
One of the greatest fears I have with the clone is that someone will enter the wrong keys there, then find out someone is using the steemit function associated with that key here.
Oh man that's terrible.. but what's weku??
Steemit clone it looks like.
I have tried to join, but I am still waiting for a confimation text message to get in. so I am still waiting to see if I hav my name on a new account.
your right with it looking similar to steemit. makes you wonder if it will last if people are already abusing it. at least on steemit we have a good set of people who tend to watch out for one another hay?
Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
That's sad. Not only are they scamming the system to get signup bonuses, but they're using real people's usernames to do it. That also keeps the user from getting to use the site. Not a great thing for a site to experience when they're trying to grow.
Exactly!
Thanks, looks like an interesting platform.
Here's their website by the way:
https://weku.io/
But where is their content portal?
Already been there and secured mine. Got love these guys that are trying to capitalize on your reputation here, over there. I tell them good luck because bad behavior will be ferreted out. It always is...
When weku in a Market?
Dang.

Oh wow! The other day i saw noganoo's weku acct. And i saw those bonus fee. And i was like wow that's a lot but I didn't know that he only use it for scam. That's sad. I thought that those accts are legit.... this is sad some of the admins there already know that some users are creating multiple accts just to get the bonus.
Well, you can only ask some people nicely not to scam your system...
