Play God: Science has Gone Too Far

in #academia8 years ago (edited)

What was once we thought was only possible in scifi films is now a realty.

Science is constantly increasing the survivability of children in the utero.

Ectogenesis/ Extrauterine fetal incubation (EUFI) is on its way and will remove most of the physical burden of pregnancy from the mother.

The process called ectogenesis allows babies to develop in a complete artificial environment.

Coined by British Scientist JBS Haldane in 1924, the concept of ectogenesis is the development of embryos in artificial conditions outside the womb.

Describing ectogenesis as pregnancy occurring in an artificial environment, from fertilization to birth, Haldane predicted that by 2074 this would account for more than 70 percent of human births.

This reminds us about the "Brave New World" where the population was nearly all conceived and raised in a factory-like environment that was described in detail at the beginning of the book.

"The development of this technolgy could be driven by the desire to help the childless, or dangerously premature babies, and not, say, a hankering for a super-soldier production line."

There's no doubt, once this technology becomes more acceptable, its not farfetched that a superpower would venture to create their unlimited production line of their ultimate weapon, the perfect soldier...

Science has gone too far.
Mankind will soon cross the limits....Play GOD ...

Perhaps you are confusing science and technology. Science is in the business of discovering and understanding reality. If you say "science has gone to far" then you are also saying that there is forbidden knowledge. "some things man is not meant to know." So how do you know that? Do you have an 800 number to his holieness? Did he/she send you a telegram?

I've read the Bible...no where in it does it say "Hey be stupid...don't search for knowledge."
Rather the opposite.

Technology, on the other hand, Is putting gods will to work..er...I mean putting knowlege to work. Same thing if you believe the bible or any relegion. Free will and all that.

Read between the lines sir, we are not putting any blame on science... its about the man behind it and things that will result from it... we have seen discoveries with all the good intentions to help mankind and end up being.... forget it... im not claiming to be on a moral high ground to tell other people they are wrong... i just thought i would share this wonderful development and tell people what would come with it... we all have our own views

I don't see anything between the lines other than white space.
I do agree that it IS a wonderful development.
The sooner the better. Think of what it can do for the millions of aborted fetuses every year.
That's assuming you don't approve of abortion.

it certainly will help a lot

Science and technology will continue to get more and more sci-fi. People won't notice it so much though, because we're preprogrammed via entertainment to accept these new realities. Star Trek for example is old news, and when we get there we will have already have been fully acclimated to the concept of space travel. It won't seem so foreign or new, as it would have been without all of the preconditioning. Then again, you could also look at it in another way, first we aspire to do something, then we manifest it. The constant desire to achieve is what leads to the creation process that makes it all possible.

star trek was fantasy.

Hey, i thought it was real

The sacred gift of creation was giving by God and together with mother and father a life is brought into the world. This is an eternal principle.

Law of God?

I have been taught so and believe so, do you disagree?

definitely, its the fundametal law

Do you agree that God is the Father?
Do you agree that we are his children?
(hint...it wouldn't be very hard to find passages that say that)
If you agree to what is plainly obvious by your OWN definition.
Then we are young gods.
Playing is learning for children.
Why NOT play god?
How else will we 'grow up'?

Your new word for the day is parthenogenesis.

It is my understanding that we are not yet Gods - but have the potential to become in time. This life is the time to prepare to show him that we will be obedient to his laws. We spend this life living and learning and slowly develop the qualities and characteristics that he now has. It is more than a life time pursuit, but it is possible. This is how I have been taught.

I happen to have a different understanding.

will you be willing to share those views

you won't like them.

My experience is that getting into a discussion about relegion will bring nothing but heartache.
I commented on the science and the confusion of it and technology. I don't really think discussing religion would be the best thing to do.

I respect that you do.

we would love to hear your thoughts

I'm agnostic.

The argument of over population aside a procedure such as this may become required to procreate. Humans, in North America, tolerate untested long term chemicals in many items such as food, plastics, and pharmaceuticals with blind faith. The consequences of bind consumption can be as sever as infertility which is a rising issue.

does that mean it could lead into infertility once we adopt this way of procreation?

aren't we missing the fact that it will make the abortion argument irrelevant from either side? not to mention birth trauma?

It will indeed solve abortion
