Meugang is a tradition of eating meat in Aceh that is usually carried out for three times a year.
One day before Ramadan, one day before Idul Fitri and one day before Eid al-Adha.
This implementation has been carried out from generation to generation in Aceh. This tradition lasted since Aceh was still a kingdom or long before joining Indonesia.
In the kingdom, the King of Aceh ordered his subordinates to slaughter the animals and the flesh was then distributed to all the people of Aceh. The goal, so that all people in Aceh can welcome Ramadan, Idul Fitri and Eid al-Adha with joy.
After the fall of Aceh's kingdom, this tradition continues in Aceh.
When Meugang arrived, a number of rich people in Aceh, still slaughtering animals and the meat is distributed to the poor.
Likewise with the men in Aceh, they will feel very embarrassed if they can not afford meat when Meugang Day arrives. Meat bought for cooking and eaten with the family.
Currently, the day of Meugang for Eid al-Adha, will take place in the next few days or less than 4 days. It will certainly be a test for men in Aceh that they can afford to buy meat for their families, a tradition that has been going on for generations in Aceh.
Thanks all.
