Mesopotamia comes from two words, namely mesos meaning central and potamus meaning river. The lush Eufrat and Tigris river valleys are the birthplace of the trading city. the Euphrates and Tigris rivers are rivers originating from the Armenian Mountains (Turkey), and both are in Mesopotamia.
