Academics: Utilization of Very Small Marine Resources in Aceh

AKURAT.CO, Rector of Malikussaleh University Lhokseumawe, Prof. Apridar stated that the utilization of marine resources occurring in Aceh Province is still very small compared to the amount of natural resources available. "Utilization of marine resources in Aceh is estimated to be only done 24 percent of the potential," Apridar told reporters in Lhokseumawe, Wednesday (31/1). Though according to him, the great marine resources, if managed and optimized properly, it will become a maritime economic magnet itself. Furthermore, Apridar said, related to the lack of optimization of natural resources, not only in terms of fishing, but also in terms of processing. "For the catch is still very minimal and generally done in the traditional way.So also with the processing, still done limited to marinated fish and dried," he said. Yet according to this Unimal Rector, that fishery products can be processed into a variety of quality products, ranging from fish meal, canned fish, to cosmetic ingredients can also be processed from fish products. Therefore, he added, to build a maritime economy in the region, it is necessary synergy between stakeholders, ranging from local governments, universities, Navy and businessmen. "All parties are expected to synergize in developing the maritime economy, so that the existing potential can be optimized," added Prof. Apridar.
