Shameless self-promotion

in #acidyo7 years ago (edited)

With the new influx of users and influence switching hands I've seen quite a few witnesses and authors promote themselves lately and rightfully so. I can't remember last time I did a milestone post or anything similar.

This will be sort of my self-promotion post, I'll try not to make it too boring.

Some history.

I signed up to Steemit on the 24th of May 2016 with user ID: 9,562, exactly 2 months after @steem was created and on the same day as my Reddit Cakeday! Good thing I didn't spend most time on Reddit that day cashing in karma for my cakeday but stumbled upon Steem instead!

Having been a "curator" and content creator + commenter on Reddit for so long but at the same time involved in blockchain, Steem was like a dream come true and felt like something I've been waiting in forever - I'm sure many others feel the same way!

When Streemian came online I was one of the first to set up a curation trail and have been running it ever since by only voting manually. Thanks to all accounts and users that have followed my votes since then and helped distribute Steem Power to so many. Currently at ~42,000 manual upvotes.

Before delegation came around I had managed to earn ~550 SP in curation rewards for over 6 months of manual voting which at the time were worth about 60$. Now I'm at 24k SP in curation rewards and have only powered down 3-4k SP in 20 moons!

I've been a firm believer of the platform and currency and knew ever since I joined that it will become really big, even when prices were going under 10 cents I spent a lot of time marketing the platform in my own little ways and encourage users to stay active when most others were leaving. Unfortunately this took a lot of time out of my day, so much so that I didn't find the time to post actively and earn that cheap SP at the time, but I always found the time to curate either on my PC or my Phone!

I've been involved with a lot of projects in and out of the platform and spend most of my waking hours on it. If I'm not posting or curating I can be found on steemit.chat, discord and slack. I try my best to give everyone some time and a chance to curate them, even if this often leads to a lot of spam from users - I know what it felt like when you first started out on Steemit.

One of the creations I'm mostly proud of is @ocd. All team members share the want to help out newcomers and spread distribution evenly among them and help retention, for no initial cost to the authors. ;)

Currently I'm planning a few projects for Steem on the sideline and waiting for SMT's to be launched and I'm hoping the community will find them as exciting as I currently do.

Why should you vote on my posts or place me on an autovoter

I spend a lot of my time on Steem daily, even if my posts may not be top-notch quality I appreciate the votes and I'm sure many reward me for all the time I spend outside of the platform for the currency. Such as having to stay active on obsolete sites like Reddit to help out newcomers stumbling on Steem and stay up to date by reading through the several discord servers, steemit.chat channels and projects coming to life on the platform.

I try my best no to vote-trade. Although sometimes I do vote on "the usuals" and people that support me, I focus most of my daily voting power on @ocd nominations. Its a bit disappointing the amount of messages I get from rather influential users asking to vote me for witness (I don't have a witness account) or vote on my posts if I'm willing to do the same and I tell them that I can't cause its going to undervalued posts of newcomers often leading to them not supporting me back.

I self-vote pretty often after the 30 minute mark, giving manual and autovoters a chance to increase their curation rewards. I am fine with not always hitting the "hot list" and making 75% in post rewards instead of higher and I hope the time will come when more users decide to do this instead of instantly self-voting and discouraging users from earning curation rewards.

I've never really used vote-buying bots except @randowhale a few times, but since its becoming a more normal thing lately I might consider doing it on posts that are a few days old to increase the curation rewards of my followers.

I also sacrifice a lot of my potential curation rewards by encouraging manual curators to vote on the @ocd compilation posts and their nominations since I vote on them often a day later thus giving you time to place your votes before mine and knowing they are going to undervalued and vetted newcomers.

You can rest assured that I'll be around the platform and working towards it for a long time in the future and that the SP I gather will be used well. Currently I have 95% of my own SP delegated further and I plan on keeping that up by growing the curation team of @ocd.

To not make this too long I think I'll stop here and want to thank you for reading and considering my self-promotion. :)

It would be really awesome if you could comment in this post if you've had any past run ins with me on the platform or what your oldest memory is for some nostalgic effect. Thank you to everyone, old and young accounts that are here often and making the platform as great as it is!

As some of you know I don't usually add "follow me" or "upvote me" at the end of posts or in the footer, but if you could resteem this post it would be highly appreciated. :)

Such a coincidence!

:)

LOL :D

I'm translating the Steem Fest 2 (the same we saw at Youtube) to Spanish and couldn't resist to use this but in the Main presentation of the videos that I have done. Hahaha, insane... Next year there man...!

¡Qué bueno Leo! jajaja.
¿Vas a traducir todo? Eso es un gran trabajo, y sería genial para todos aquellos que no entienden inglés =)

Hola Nely! Si asi es.. ya subi en el blog... :)

Is this on the main Steemfest livestream camera? Because it shoud be!

I decided to re-write my comment.

In addition to having a birds-eye view of what's going on in crypto - encouraging everyone to look past volatility or prolonged price slumps, your freely shared knowledge of the latest alts is invaluable. I've been "at war" in my career trying to get things on track, and really haven't done any serious trading or investing, but once things simmer down, I've really got to pay heed to your alt suggestions.

With all the bad things banks and governments do to erode wealth and crush the middle class, I see crypto as a way of coming out on top or at least escaping the worst of their traps. Your angle has been to help point the way to financial freedom. What will that do? Create solid Steem users - it's hard to post and make a few bucks when one's over-concerned about the near future or next paycheck.

I think you can help a lot of people break that cycle of "just getting by."

I appreciate your accessibility and down to earth style.

Hopefully I can go spam-hunting on your posts some day, catch some real winners and do another rant. But for now, I'm drowning in corporate type work, trying to keep up. Let's hope Steem can go sky high and the current minnows/dolphins can go full-time here!

You have given me so much motivation in a time where was going to quit steemit thank you very much. I can say that you are a big plus for this community you are a very cool dude who helps a lot of people in this community not just by upvoting but with your OCD project and the whole team behind it you help people to get more attention on there posts from the community.

What I very much appreciate is that you upvote a lot of comments and that you reply to these comments I don't see that from most of the whales.

After some nice chats with you on steem chat or on twitch I can say you are a damn cool dude and you deserve this self-promotion and all the great comments.

I am also very glad to have you as one of my followers :)))

Thanks for all you do and keep steemin.

LOVE&LIGHT for you and family

The thing that surprised me was that you are not a witness. I tried to vote on you a couple of days back as I only have 3 witnesses I have voted on, and I thought you would be worthy of it. (I am not really into the witness research part, so I only vote on the people that I have personally seen do good things).
I found out about you through OCD, after being featured in it and following it, your name popped up a couple of times and it got me curious, because OCD and Curie are the two bigger great things that help a newbie not get discouraged. I think it is amazing what you have created just for the simple reason that you give people hope in a steemit kind of way!

It is a great job to vote manually.
I have been voting maually eversince I joined in Steemit.
It was not easy job.

I'm happy to see this type of post. You've earned the right and actively contribute to the community. You have good character and prove it consistently.

So many shamelessly ride their own coat tails from being early adopters with a large herd, but YOU EARN your votes and respect, and maintain them.

Thank you for being one of the top Steemians in my book.

You are an inspiration to me and I have always valued your support. I love OCD and the small role I play in it with the other curators. As you know, you inspired me to start my own curation project, albeit with a much smaller reach. I enjoy curating, in large part because of what OCD has taught me.

Really glad to have you on the team and appreciate the work you put towards the platform! :)

agreed. :)

You were on my auto vote list at 100% but I get no love. I put u back on again and see what happens.. LOL...

Haha, apologize. I'm hoping @ocd-bot gets some delegation love when its up and running so I can focus more on manual curation again!

Well Acid is cool he is one of the best curators with a decent voting pattern and he is a fair in distrubition. We even played some games together complete rager but good steemit user

Haha, you can't not rage at cs:go! :D

Good times we miss! :,(

Incoming, a rare comment from lurk-master-V. Great work on the manual curation OCD project and delegating so much sp! Good to remind people what's happening behind the scenes.

There's a lot we can learn from this post, and from your example.
I'm going to follow your lead and not self vote right away so people can benefit more from my posts. It's a very thoughtful approach.

Looking forward to more run-ins with @acidyo!

Everytime I see the acid Mew I get inspired keep up the good content and glad to see your story and transition from reddit to steem community!

Cheers

Dante

Man you are already one of the top people on steemit. Everything you post goes on trending. Even if you chill and post pictures of cats you'd still make it big ^^. Also I'd place you on my autovoter but im using my 7 cents to support the ecotrain group. Although I do manually upvote your content <3 (Not that it shows with my sp LOL haha ).

Also you gave me a helping hand with the SWG guild a month back so that is from where I know you. Even gave you a DM on the chat a day or two ago asking if its ok to show one or two of your posts as screenshots.

Overall #loveyourwork #youareawesome.

<3 Goldie

Well, you sure know I have a good memory of you that will probably stick with me for a long time. You are the reason I stayed back on steemit, I could have left but your kindness and words of encouragement nourished my enthusiasm. I have not arrived yet but I do not think I will ever give up on this platform.

That is one long journey and you have worked hard to earn your position here. Congratulations. Success to you here and everywhere, @acidyo :) . Yes @ocd is a very good initiative to support and promote quality content.
I am more of a content creator / artist blogger and less of technical person. I wanted a little guidance from you. How do I improve my voting percentage? I have no clue !
And again Congratulations on your success. May many more follow.

Mew Mew

I've been following @Acidyo for a good part of the time I have been on Steemit and have a lot of respect for the selflessness he shows.

I've shown up for a few of his live curation streams where he shares a large chunk of his voting power rewarding undervalued posts while engaging with the live audience.

Should definitely be following @acidyo!

Huh, some nostalgia you say? Let me think. I remember that you gave me a $1 upvote on a comment in my first weeks and I was so excited about it and this platform. That was when I met you. Love at first upvote, lol. :)))

A while after that you posted about @OCD, but I had no idea what that meant at that time, but I enjoyed your Hitler Parody so much.

I was also so happy when I got in @OCD and had the chance to do something positive on the platform.

Thank you for all your constant support.

Heil Acid Fuhrer.

Haha lol, had completely forgotten about the hitler parody. :D

I'm glad I reminded you of it because it was epic. :)))

Getting to know you through your Fantasy game has been a pleasure. You seem like a really friendly, innovative and extremely honest person. Honest towards steemit and the users which will help the platform to grow in a very positive way. I can't wait for next season where we will change the way that not only a few hundred people look at Fantasy, but hopefully a couple of thousand. Keep it up! :)

Very inspirational and motivational, especially for the new users to be heading in the right direction rather than getting disappointed thus leaving the Platform, instead.
OCD is such a remarkable service and luckily I, myself have been rewarded by them quite frequently. So grateful indeed, and we wish you keep it up.
Look forward to more from you and suggest addition of your curation tail on steemauto, because its so easy to join the Curation tail, there. You'll have more people following and supporting the OCD.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check steemauto out!

Self promotion is challenging for most of us, but your content is your brand essentially and if you don't want to promote it, why should anyone else want to promote it? right?! Way to go, you've done great here and keep encouraging others!

Awesome its truly interesting to hear your background in Steemit since I only go on last month :D you've put a lot of work into steemit, and to help the community, and it really shows!!

Tnx acidyo for always helping newcomers like us and for staying by our side. All the best for your work and keep it up... again tnx man..

Hi there @acidyo! I've read the entire article and I commend you for the initiative to support new steemians and finding ways to make them stay, and even those who stumbled into steemit that don't know what to do or have no idea what they're doing, we haven't crossed paths since I came in(well this is only my 18th day), but I followed you a few days back I think, when I read you post about flagging, and I couldn't agree less on the points you shared on that post. I hope you keep fighting the good fight and keep on supporting the community in your own little ways! Kudos!
@jamesanity06

Seen you help a ton of people on this platform and give many a warm welcome through chat that really lets them know that someone "known" took interest in them. Thanks for doing the same for me and hopefully one day we can Lambo4Lambo :)

Lambos on Mars!

Im pretty sure you are the reason why I sticked around and didn´t give up like some of my friends did. Your support on my early days was crucial for me, was what encouraged me to keep posting, no doubts about it. If only there were more whales curating like you do, Steemit would be A LOT better.

I really appreciate your lack of greediness man!

I do manual curation too in my little sp
And I am following acidyo account
But so far, I am doing good also in a little way!

Keep supporting you

You have been a huge influence on my Steemit career with your generous delegation and including me in the @OCD Team. I am forever grateful for that. You help many people on this platform, and it is appreciated! Thanks again @Acidyo for all you have done, and will do in the future I am sure to help Steemit!

Great story, glad to see people who are out to help the platform. I always try to help the steemit platform too, i encourage new minnows to stay on by "showing them the ropes" so to speak. But im sure u are a lot more helpful to them than i am lol. Anyhow, your story inspires me to keep on the grind and hopefully ill one day be where u are :)

How do i get my post nominated for ocd?

It's a closed curation group that find posts on their own, but we do resteem 3 posts a day that have the tag #ocd-resteem on them!

Oh, ok. Thanks :)

Before delegation came around I had managed to earn ~550 SP in curation rewards for over 6 months of manual voting which at the time were worth about 60$.

With the above much reward but low value, its no wonder many didn't stay around to see this platform become are great it is today and I do appreciate all your efforts towards manual upvote and your team as well, you guys are doing a great work here on steemit keep it up

@acidyo our first meeting? I am sure it was in steemit chat maybe 3 months ago. I had posted recently and gotten no views or something that I mentioned. Later when I was looking at my accountvI saw that it had about a $7 or $8 upvote! Wow!! I looked and it was this user from chat: @acidyo
It was a really great feeling and I am ever thankful for your work and support on Steemit and in the chatroom.

And I support your work on @ocd and ocd international!!

I would pay $100 to have 10 more veterans or whales just like you!!!!

Good luck to you in all that you do! Stay kind, and PEACE my friend!

Yay!! I learn something from your posts... and you have supported some of my art-related posts in the past... Perhaps those are some of the reasons why I'm following your account aside from the MEW icon you're using! hahaha.. MEW is just so adorable not to follow..

Mew's the best! ^^

Hahaha... indeed it is! ^^ I'll keep supporting mYOU! ^^

I remember shortly after I joined the platforms we spent many hours going back and forth with funny memes!

OCD is one of the best creations on Steemit to date! Those curators do a GREAT job!

It's nice to know you @acidyo ! Not sure if I have ever encountered some of your posts before. But yeah, thank you for the detailed "you". More power!!!

hi @acidyo good guide for a new comer like me.. I don't have any ideas and i don't know why i have sign in ... but i think everyone else do know about one thing, they are here because they wanted to make some earning but its kinda annoying to be force to like at what i do not like..then i notice it was just a bot..i don't know how to keep up..haa thanks..

Man, I can't for the life of me remember what post led to you and I running into each other. Probably either something to do with Pokemon, movies, or video games though I'm sure. However, I do remember that it was like 6ish months ago at least though, which is pretty crazy in a way. Time sure does fly quite a bit, especially here on Steemit apparently, lol.

I am new to STEEMIT, and @acidyo is included in the account I first participated in early in my involvement here, I deeply appreciate your idealism in steemit and are amazed by your loyalty to cryptocurrency that has proven to be an alternative to currencies and the digital world , congratulations you have succeeded in grabbing a part of your obsession.

@ocd is the best, for that alone I say a very big "Thank You!"
This was very cool to read and hear about an early one. I am just a new minnow. lol
May you have another 20 moons on the platform and more.
Congratz!

I hope that in 20 moons I can write pretty much the same thing about curating and helping and supporting new users!
And since you asked... I think our first meeting was in steemit.chat when the others in their were acting goofy and having a good laugh with each other. Less than a month ago I am sure.

Many of us have been minnows at one point, you'll be a dolphin in no time! ^^

My beard entangled your foot in steemit.chat

We exchanged many words. Some say it is entangled still, to this day.

It is great having you here, if everyone can apply same principle both the old and new users will enjoy this platform the more.@theheralds

@acidyo, I really salute your effort for providing steemit users especially new users using manual curation power. You`re really inspiration to me when I come steemit last September. I am new for steemit yet. I want to get more instructions and advice from senior users like as you. OCD project really awesome working with curation activities. I appreciate your task force with others. But I have some problem. I cant contact to you via steem.chat. I think you are very busy with your trading. I am refer to say that, you showing honest leadership to all of steemians.
Best wishes for your next task.

Sure, feel free to contact me and I'll respond when I find the time!

Thank your Quick feed back..If you are busy I`ll keep text there @acidyo.

Thank you for all you do @acidyo.

I am only on here since Aug of this year so I passed my 90 day mark. I, too, believe in this platform and am doing all I can for this platform. STEEM is going to be huge.

It is wonderful to see one who is on here from the early days who cares about spreading the wealth around and helping others. There are a few who I encountered who are in that boat. Sadly, there are also many who do not take the time to think about others. I came across one tonight with 42K in SP who upvotes his posts and his comments...to the tune of $3 apiece...yet he did not give a single upvote to anyone who commented on his posts.

I guess there are all kinds...personally I think your method is what will make this blockchain keep growing.

If I can help out on any of your projects just let me know. I can tout and promote...not so good on the coding/development side.

yet he did not give a single upvote to anyone who commented on his posts.

Yeah, I really dislike those too. :/
I'm sure the community will realize sooner or later and he will only have his own votes while we share smaller and bigger votes with eachother instead!

This post has received a 100.00 % upvote from @msp-bidbot thanks to: @kunschj. Thank you for using msp-bidbot. Be sure to vote for witnesses at https://steemit.com/~witnesses.

Wow! You are amazing. Its been like week since I joined steemit. Somehow I stumbled upon one of your posts and followed you. I have been loving each of your posts since. Its amazing that there are still people like you who love to contribute to the community, especially to help the newbies.

I'm happy I chose to follow you, your posts and ultimately you are like an inspiration for me. Thanks and have a nice day ahead.

You the MVP man, RS to reach more newcomers. Glad you found me, thanks for all the valuable lessons youve taught me.

I first came across your name through one of your curators who sang high praises of what you're doing on OCD. Then I found that you run a SPFL, damn! Wish I'd found out earlier. As a big whale, you're very human, taking time to respond to and help others partucularly minnows. That's important on this platform as it helps to breakdown the minnow / whale divide.

Although I haven't been OCD'ed before, I'm sure those who have, appreciate the recognition and step up in the ladder in this ocean. Cheers.

Thanks for your comment! :)

Make sure to sign up in time for next season of SFPL!

It was most certainly in steemit.chat when we first talked and I liked your mew av. I talked to you about a steemit themed pokemon I drew, and shortly after drew a mew transforming into a whale pokemon. That is the first I can remember.

:D feels so long ago yet it wasn't. Time is weird on Steem.

Yeah man. A lot has happened since I joined in june!
