I just can’t stop playing with my wood these days and yesterday was no exception. The rains had held off and that allotted me more time to split and stack more firewood. First I dealt with a bunch of irrigation tubing I had laying in the yard that was buried in years of tree detritus. I rolled it all up and put in the storage area I have the rest of the irrigation lines.
The whole top 25 feet of rounds took just minutes to split as it was the oldest of the dead wood and resisted very little. In one of the lower rounds I popped this section apart with the maul and exposed this really cool looking junction of branch and tree. It has a hive look to it and I almost expect bees to be popping out the bottom.
It is a definite show for me that I am getting stronger since I was able to split for a few hours off and on over the afternoon with little pain. A couple of rounds in a row ended up splitting JUUUUUST right. Each round split where I hit it and the pieces stayed in place without spraying around away from each other. The pieces all sat in the same circle after my initial splitting.
While this may seem trivial to many or not make sense to some, I will say that this is a serious rarity for me to have happen. Normally the wood splits and the pieces shoot away from each other in opposite directions and a round never looks like this after splitting. I found 2 rounds that were nice and straight grained and easy to split, in a row. I had to split each of the pieces down smaller after this but it was still cool.
I am filling in the last pallet and have the back row half full. Since getting a new tarp for my hay I was able to move the old tarp back to the wood pile and its other half. I cut the lap pool cover in half after getting it 10 years ago and have been using one half for the wood and the other for hay. Now they are reunited once again and can both cover the wood pile.
We got all of .03” rain over night and it looks to be abated for the day so I will have another chance to get out and play with my wood some more. I am determined to get the pile completely stacked out before snow falls. I have a pretty good chance since I am this close. I have my work cut out for me today.
That’s beautiful! Some people use a bungee or a chain around it spilt it then toss them on the pile. I do say it does burn a lot of energy picking up little piece by little piece. Your wood piles are pristine, mine are just piled up lol

It has taken me years to get to this point of "wood pile organization"! My pile was such a horrid mess for so long that this is long over due.
Looks great and like you have room for a couple cords. Hopefully you can it full before WINTER sets in too hard.
Lol! That's much better than the original. I'm old enough to remember that damn psa running on tv. The just say no generation. Probably would have made more impact if they had used this angle.
