@michealb I think it all depends on what the individual wants. For me;

  1. I need that much SP to make my upvote worthwhile but can't afford it at a go. So I lease SP.
  2. It frees up my own SP so I can invest in other DApps while still having the power to upvote.
  3. What I earn from curation makes sense. I.e. they are higher compared to if I didn't lease SP.
  4. I am able to upvote a lot of people and still have my VP and RC on the high side without been limited.
  5. I think it made me get to where I am now faster when you combine all the reasons I've mentioned together.
  6. I also leased SP to help promote a lot of newbies when I ran the fastest fingers competitions to help grow them, then I was actually on 10,000+ SP & my upvote was worth $0.45+ then. This helped grow many accounts and that was where the idea of upvoting comments came from.

With a high SP one should be upvoting a lot to earn from curation and this makes a lot of people happy. I also target post I think have the potential to earn high based on previous history and I also use my upvote to kick start the life of many on steemit.

Wow! Sorry for writing a book instead of some small points. To end I think I wasn't evaluating it on profitability but rather on the need to be able to delegate to others and still be able to do what I want.
