Makorori Beach
I drove past this view point yesterday but didn't get a chance to stop so made up for it today and with better weather. If you look closely, you can see a couple of horses taking their dog for a walk!
Anaura Bay Walkway
A rugged and rough walk through steep bush and grassland, as well as traversing rivers multiple times was an adventurous and fun way to start the morning! Was hoping for some views on the walk of the bay itself but I was shrouded by deep rainforest. Nonetheless, on the drive down, there was a great view point so all is well after this 3.5km hike!
Tokomaru Bay
Stopped off here as a recommendation from the Lonely Planet book but the wharf is shut due to disrepair and other than the long beach, there isn't really much else here. There is one pub called Te Puka Tavern and a small supermarket! But the beach is pretty scenic at least!
Te Araroa
This gets a mention as it's en route to the East Cape Lighthouse. The Lonely Planet book mentions the world's largest pohutukawa tree which measures over 40m wide (it is pretty big to be fair) and over 350 years old. Good place to stop for lunch although there is even less here than at Tokomaru Bay!
East Cape Lighthouse
A 20km gravel road East of Te Araroa and 800 steps up (I counted 790 wooden panels but there was a 10m section without them) and you will reach the most easterly point of NZ - the East Cape Lighthouse. Shame you can't go inside but the views are pretty decent up there! Like pretty much most lighthouses, this is run automatically.
And then it was all capped off with a beautiful sunset over Hick's Bay before getting to Waihau Bay!
Pretty easy day lol!
Til the next one

Wow good posting for actifit
Thanks a lot! I did panic a bit though as fat fingers here pressed "post to steem" instead of "upload photo" so had to do a massive edit lol!

I thought they were camels ;) Silly me.
Cool Rally! Congratulations on the lighthouse!
Haha no, they were definitely horses, trotting along with their dog, things work differently out here it seems 😂

Horses taking their dog for a walk.... LOL
Looks like a great day... and if that count is an easy day.... Woah.... :)
To be honest, I'll take easy right now! But I don't do easy, it's too... Easy! Yea I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked back at the pictures too. I'll have a better one for the bigger blog when I do my road trip review series when I'm back in the UK and have time... In 2037 🤣
Posted using Partiko Android
2037 hahahaha
Well, looking on the bright side, I will be seeing you around here then 😉

Thanks a lot @cheese4ead mate! Considering there's only 11 hours of daylight I have to squeeze in an awful lot haha! Something's got to give... 🤔
Posted using Partiko Android
Amazing, you must be taking some great photos there
As good as I can get with the camera on my phone. Won't ever beat an SLR though. Those things are beastly

A nice review of your day with your Lonely Planet guide. ;)
I'm glad I got this book otherwise I'd be lost really! Having said that, I've done my own thing to an extent but some good tips in the book to get you started. Although they didn't say to drive 3,000 miles (5,000km) in 10 days or post to steem 😂

Ok putting tokomaru on my wish list
Haha each to their own but I would stand by my "sleepy town" description! There really aren't a lot of people on the east coast of NZ North Island!
Posted using Partiko Android
That’s what I neeeeeedddd
Then come to Tokomaru Bay 😁
Posted using Partiko Android
Fabulous photography of New Zealand hope you enjoying the visit, scenery, being outdoors, conquering new challenges Nicky.
Hey @joanstewart! Thanks for stopping by and it's a very photo friendly place, even for rank amateurs like me 😛 absolutely loving it here and glad I made the choice to come out here and explore this amazing country
Posted using Partiko Android
My husband went over to visit his family and mentioned it is very pretty, also came home with great photography in the areas he visited.
Great to hear you enjoying the island!
It really is a special place! It's been beyond my expectations and would put it at the top of the list of places to visit! Hope you get to come here if you haven't already
Posted using Partiko Android
I think I would have tried to join the horses. :P Look at that sunset! Beautiful! Even though there wasn't much around for you to visit, I think the scenery is just stunning. It is a calming view and sometimes we need just that. :)
Haha hmm, a fox and a horse... 🤔 interesting, very interesting 😁
I have lucked out with the weather for the most part for sure, makes the drives a lot more enjoyable when you have to do so much and yes the scenery was still great to look at even if there wasn't much to do in the town!
Posted using Partiko Android
What are you thinking about... a fox and a horse...?
@nickyhavey, Good to see that you made it today and you made it at perfect time because this view is so refreshing and in a way it's the Sign Of Abundance.
Keep exploring more places and keep consuming the natural energy.

Hey @chireerocks! Thanks a lot for the awesome words and I'm glad you enjoyed these views with me, there's so much natural goodness in NZ to explore. I hope you get to feel it too

Fantastic visual post! You really have some nice locations for walking/hiking. That's the kind of walking I like to do, but I have to drive a LONG way to find anything like that. You should make an entry in TreeTuesday with that beautiful pohutukawa tree. Good luck on the @phctop3 contest and your EMA.
Hey @blueeyes8960 thanks a lot for stopping by and checking it out! Well, if it makes you feel better, I've driven nearly 5,000km (3,000 miles) to get around this amazing country in 11 days plus all the hikes so it can be done if you want to do it 😉 How far do you need to go? Where do you live btw?
I haven't heard of treetuesday til now, you have a link to it?
Seems you have been doing well with the phctop3 contest too, hope to see you for next month as well! And EMA is still going strong - I'm looking forward to getting back in to it full swing when I return

@nickyhaveyI live in midwest USA, close to St Louis MO. My favorite hiking spot within a 1-day drive is Garden of the Gods. So I take it you're not living in New Zeland, you're there on vacation (or work?) and taking in all the great trails?
#treetuesday has its own hashtag, you can all the posts there.
I'll probably skip this edition of the contest, I don't know enough to make a top 3 list. But I can't wait to see what they come up for the next one after that.
Ahhh OK there really isn't a lot near you is there other than lots of flats/plains?
I'm just on a looooong vacation out here, my time is nearly up in NZ, fly back to Melbourne on Monday for another month of Australian frolicking then it's back to the UK for an indefinite period of...well.... Work frolicking 😁
Well, never say never about the contest, each month brings a fun new topic, I may even write something when I get back to Melbourne!

That first shot looks a bit like the north coast over here my friend, deserted and lovely. Great shots and must have been a lovely walk.
Blessings!
I have heard there's a lot of similarities between coast lines of NZ, Australia and South Africa - I do like it when it's just me around this natural beauty! Shoulder season is definitely a good time to visit! My poor legs are letting me know I need to have a beach day and chill though, can't keep doing this every day 😂
Posted using Partiko Android
Shoulder season? First time to hear this expression.
Don't push yourself too hard and a break from the activities sounds good.
Take care of yourself.
Blessings!
Ah yes, it's the season in between peak holiday season. Break time tomorrow (hopefully not broken time haha)!

Great looking country there!
It really is @old-guy-photos! I'm so grateful I have the opportunity to explore it (tiring though it's been at times with the sheer distances I've had to travel plus the hikes - it's been worth it)!

Very lovely photos, @nickyhavey! What a lovely day it seems, with the sun out and blue, blue sky !
.... I thought the horses were camels, too XD;;;; hahahah
The blue sky makes a big difference @veryspider! Every body loves the sunshine, makes us all happy! Give me that vitamin D 😁
Haha I do have a close up of those camel horses but will save it for the bigger blogs 😉

Two horses taking their dog for a walk, priceless. 😁

Haha @wonderwop! I had to double take on that when I saw it! Thought my eyes were playing tricks on me as it was really early in the morning lol, thankfully there's photo evidence 😂

Beautiful! I am green with envy. I wish I was there. :-)

Never say never, well worth the journey over to NZ as you can see, you won't be disappointed - just don't go in peak season!
Posted using Partiko Android
Howdy sir nickyhavey! wow, wonderful coastlines, cool lighthouse, gorgeous ancient trees..but no people. Do people still live there? that's my kind of place if it's that sparce! I could step outside my door and shoot in any direction!
It is very sparse in shoulder season Lord Janton! Just don't go between December and Feb because it is jam packed full of people. I also got up pretty early each morning to make the most of each day as it is winter here and so days are shorter.
Vintage American thing to say "shoot in any direction" lol!
Posted using Partiko Android
lol! Is that what they call a coloqualism? that saying? I probably misspelled that word too. I love the looks of that place with no one around, suits me just fine, I think I would fit there very well until peak season. I don't like gawkers and tourists!
No I think it's an actual term they have in the tourism industry. It's "colloquialism" in Queen's English but in Redneck, that's probably how you say it lol.
Then it sounds like Shoulder Season is your kind of time to go too! I plan my trips around May/June or September to avoid the rush. I remember when I was heading back to the city I felt suffocated just for that short instant but the population of NZ is only 4.5 million or so. When you think London has nearly double that...!
