A change of the human mind
We don't like this, we don't like that. We don't like socialism, but we are not too keen on democracy either. We resent the feudalism and fear communism. Well, some of us complain when it's raining, others when it is too hot. Some go both ways and complain solely for the sake of complaining. We often don't realize that it is the worst thing to do.
People are hard to please most of the times. Out minds always work toward desiring something even in times when everything seems to be running smoothly. We could explore the roots of that erratic senseless behaviour based on anything but logic, however, it would not lead us too far. Let's turn to an example instead.
Let's imagine, for a brief moment, that there is no more government, no state, no borders. Therefore there is no law, apart from the one in our hearts and minds. Well, some hearts and minds. There are also the cold ones, the broken ones who find pleasure in breaking the rules for their benefit. Bands of marauders, private armies, fights for food and resources, warlords rising up to dominate others, slavery, endless runs, knowledge lost, morals erased, murders and death all around etc.
We would deteriorate, not advance after such development of events. But yes, I agree, it would probably be fun for the first couple of days. Everything is. Then the cold shower comes.
I hear you saying, this is exactly why we have states, borders and governments. Yes, it is. We established those institutions in order to protect ourselves from ourselves. Isn't that quite crazy when you think about it? Crazy as much as real. There are no other species on Earth that steal, lie and kill their own the way humans do.
At this moment in the development of human mind, a drastic change would bring catastrophic consequences and it would not change a thing in the long run, as we would start organizing some kind of system the moment the old one is down. Something far more drastic would need to happen - a change of the human mind.
Is it possible?

I always had this idealistic scenario in my mind.
Imagine that everything would be free for everyone. There will be enough resources for every person on the planet, so one would only need to go to that bakery and take a bread whenever he or she needs it, right? Or get that new phone when they really need it. Or gas, or whatever service one might need.
The first days, maybe weeks or months might be disastrous, as some people would take as much as possible for themselves. But then, after a while, I think everybody would realize that everything is there, all the time - whenever they want something - so the need to take as much as possible right now would simply go away.
Let me give you a few examples.
We've all chased girls or boys during our life, right? Girls in my case. :D Have you noticed that situation when the person you liked is simply there for you, all the time? Have you noticed how your mind changes? How you stop wanting them so bad? How you'll only go and meet them if you really need them around?
Or take another one.
When I was a kid and got internet at home for the first time, I was glued to the computer screen day and night searching and reading about everything I could think of. For like 3 days. Afterwards I realized that the internet will be there all the time, so I simply didn't want it anymore. It was there, whenever I needed it.
I'm thinking that the same thing would happen in my idealistic scenario of this world. You only need something you don't or can't have. That's us, humans. But if you can have anything you wish for, those wild cravings we sometimes have will just go away.
It's just that our minds need to figure that out. Somehow. I would think this is possible, only if most of our needs would be met, and nobody would suffer from hunger or thirst or lack of anything.
If all of a sudden, we would all share everything with everybody, that problem will be solved.
But we're so afraid of losing the precious stuff we've worked so hard for...
I do think that a drastic shift in the human mind is possible, but that it might take so long to happen. Our minds are still in the flight or fight mode most of the time, so that's what we need to work on. But I believe that something like the Basic Universal Income has the power to switch that mode off and get us past it to better horizons here on our little blue planet.
Glad to see you post just after I said something nice about you. I should jinx things into life like this more often.
I do think that there are plenty of different government forms that could work out in one way or the other depending on the circumstances. Of course, changing from one system to the other in a sudden fashion will always end up in chaos because of the sudden nature of things creating huge waves.
A slow process that changes things one at a time into the right direction would be more desirable of course.
Either that or something external suddenly happens that makes fast changes a necessity.
Shame on us humans. I completely agree and it’s sad. That’s what humans are. They have a good qualities, but unfortunately they have a bad qualities as well, greed, lies, complains, theft,...
Recently I read an article where author complained about overall police, he called them with different kind of words (not pretty words). I asked him if he was in need, if he was in that situation when he got the only chance that could save him to call 911, if he would do that. He didn’t respond, but complaining stopped as well. We can complain about government, about politicians, about borders, but if we didn’t have any of it, we might have turned into animals as well. As you mentioned “we need to protect ourselves from ourselves”, we need law and order.
I think you are completly right!!
I think that we have been told or «programmed» to what we should think and feel about everything since we started to get exposed for the world from kindergarden or ofc before but you get my point learning shit, school etc... and now we are so exposed being programmed from for example the comercials that shows us everything of what we need and what we deserve what we should give and what we should and shouldn’t share so ofcourse people are NEEDY AS fuck! and it is a insane to me that so few people are open minded for their own free thinking, gut, intuition eventhough it is so mutch egoism and selfishnes this world!
Our fate is both tragic and terribly ironic. As we enter the Anthropocene Age, we ought to be celebrating the triumph of human ingenuity that the science-community-approved moniker represents.
After millennia of cowering in caves, watching loved ones snatched away by illness, and planting seeds only to see the crops shrivel under clouds of locusts, we’ve finally tamed the evil forces of nature. We’ve ascended, innovation by innovation, to the top of the food chain. We are at last fully in charge of our destiny and that of all living things.
And yet … never in human history have God’s creatures, humans included, been so imperiled. Described more than a century ago, the greenhouse effect was identified as an imminent threat back in the 1960s by Rachel Carson, among others. As a magazine editor decades ago, I assigned a cover story on doomsday scenarios, which seemed to be unaccountably multiplying. With tongue in cheek, the writer summarized the top 10 threats (depleting ozone layers, tainted food, the greenhouse effect and so on) so as to arm readers with an intelligent quip or two should one of these dire “menaces” come up at a dinner party.
Why the lighthearted tone? America was in a lighthearted mood, drunk with pride over having defeated the Red Menace. What were all these other menaces compared to that? If we could end communism, we could do anything.
But the implications of the greenhouse effect were not lost on the likes of Exxon Mobil. The oil and gas industry and all the other industries that benefited from its product, from autos to agriculture, conspired to create what I now think of as the politics of denial.
Studies were suppressed. Climate scientists were ignored or their predictions ridiculed. Some lost their jobs. Others found work in industries or academic institutions where they could do no harm. And as the effects of climate change became obvious to all, the new task became not how to fix this but how to “adapt.
great post. thank you
no other word for you @adsactly, keep the spirit and success always, I always support you.
Great info
Yeah that's true, if there is too much decentralization, then it results in statelessness which isn't good
I think biggest problem I faced with 'converting' people to BitCoin is that they have to admit to them self that they have been fooled and robbed up until this point in life. And people have to big of an ego to do that.
There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the way to achieve the same ultimate goal: communism proposes to enslave man by force, socialism by vote. It's the same difference between murder and suicide. Great words from Ayn Rand
I hope its possible. It just seems like a lot of the things we have in place now are out of date and just doesnt make sense for 2018. The chaos is pretty stressful too though.
but who knows. maybe something is good is playing out that we havent noticed yet.
