He raised up his head and glanced at his dearly beloved daughter, He was obviously surprised as he could not believe he had just been stabbed by the one he had sacrificed so much to protect and to provide for;
'how did it get to this?'
'where did it all go wrong?'
They say one gets a replay of all that happens during their life time at the point of death, I guess this was the case for Lord Damond as he appeared to be focusing on thin air as he took his last breath. Thalia, who had just killed her father stood over his lifeless body and didn't make any attempt to escape as the royal guards closed up on her. I was but a butler so I stood aside helplessly as the over zealous guards restrained and dragged the rebellious princess away. It honestly broke my heart to see her taken away for I was well aware of reasons behind her actions and I understood them.
Lord Damond was lord over a little manor independent of all the larger warring kingdoms that surrounded his little it. Although he had been pressured time over time by one kingdom or the other to pledge his alligence, he had never succumbed. Even though he didn't have the military might to defend his manor from these kingdoms, he was a very ambitious man; so ambitious that he could envision himself on the throne of any of the kingdoms.
Above lord Damond's crazy ambitions, he loved his daughter Thalia. He had lost her mother when she was only two years old and Thalia has been the only one he loved dearly and the only family he had. I think his ambitions out grow his love for his daughter after the visit of a certain diplomat from the kingdom of East Winston. Apparently Lord Damond had been considered for the throne of east Winston because they'd lost the heirs to the war and the king was too old to rule. Lord Damond was to be made king under one condition though,- he had to marry his daughter out to the old king.
Thalia protested vehemently against her marriage to the king but her father forced her into it with all sorts of threats and promises.
'it would be alright my dear', he had said 'all you have to do is marry the old fool- I'll deal with him when the time is right'.
