Life As We Know It- Adulting

An adult, said to be a fully developed version of the human species but, is there even such a thing? Let us explore this.

There is a laundry list of things one must accomplish in order to be considered a fully developed human or an "adult". While one would think simply buying a tie, new shoes and a suit is all it takes, this is clearly not the case. In fact, the term Adulting as coined in 2015 has highlighted the obvious issues we currently have with the concept, all packaged up with elaborate memes that set a tone of utter confusion, loss and dismay. How does one "adult" successfully? A question of my generation, as we associate adulting with the themes of our beloved childhood cartoons which included stress, bills and consequently weight gain.

However, the true telltale sign that one is an adult rests solely on one's ability to utilize basic life skills to survive life as we know it. These include fighting off a bear with a stick and kindling a fire from nothing but two pieces of sticks. Okay... it's really not that simple. An adult must possess survival skills which include getting a job, or furthering your education and managing one's own money. Yeah, that right... no more allowances!

Additionally, though a detrimental concept to today's "adults", adulting means you learn to be responsible and as such you learn how to survive and shouldn't that be greeted with positivity? It is challenging, I should know but the truth is one day a light bulb goes off and you just kind of, sort of, get it.

In the long run, we all become our own version of an adult, as we aim to survive in the big, exciting world. Despite the challenges we all inevitably face, we ultimately come to realize that the challenges helped us learn basic life skills and kept us strong, molding an adult human species. So get out there and start adulting!
