The Good Old Days...

I'm sorry to say this and I know I'm several years late, so you can let the bashing begin, but I recently finished The Office. In my personal opinion, this was easily one of the best series endings ever.

Now there are several different lines that we can write about, and probably will in articles to come. However, one that really stands out is when Nard Dog is giving his last goodbye and drops the line, "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.".

Often times we think about how bored, or unhappy, or unfulfilled we are with our current situation. We sit and dream about what is to come and how we would love to be anywhere but in the here and now. And then years down the road we sit and perform a retrospective of things past. It always seems that this is the moment we realize, well maybe it wasn't so bad. Then begin to laugh because of that one time that Johnny did that hilarious thing, or we realize how stupid that one argument with our loved one was.

So how do we make sure that doesn't happen anymore? How about trying a few things, and see what happens?

It's not always that serious

Many times we like to make things bigger than they actually are. I know it's a shocker because you never do this, but you do. Be willing to take a step back and realize that whatever it is, will it really make that much of a difference in your life in an hour?

Identify the daily miracles

Every day something great happens. And I mean great! Regardless of the situations that we are in, every day is chance to bring a smile to our face. Smiling has been proven to be the best medicine, so be sure to watch for the wins and miracles that can make you smile.

Arguing can be stupid

So don't be stupid, stupid! This one can be tough, especially when we feel we have been wronged. But let's get honest here, we most often argue with that special someone that is closest with us. Most of the time over something stupid.

Learn to forgive

Look we will always be wronged and people will say things that they don't mean to. Yes those things can cause us to feel some kind of way. Be willing to take a step back and say can we both just be sorry for this misunderstanding and move on. Some of mine and Piper's best laughs have come from how dumb the argument was.

Write it down

There will be plenty to come on this topic. We aren't built to remember every single thing that comes along. Often times we forget it within a matter of minutes and are not able to recall it later. Be sure to write it down to keep it for later. Whether that be digitally or by hand.

Capturing life is great

If The Office taught us nothing else then recall what Jim said at the end of the series:

"Imagine going back and watching a tap of your life. You can see yourself change, and make mistakes, and grow up. You could watch yourself fall in love. Watch yourself become a husband, become a father. You guys gave that to me, and that is an amazing gift"

Just like the other bullet points, we will dig into this much deeper later on but is necessary here. I think the quote says it all.

Know you can change it

If you're unhappy about your situation, then just change it. I know some will sit and say, that isn't possible. But isn't it though? I'm not saying it's going to change right now. It will over time if you are dedicated and want it to though. So go take it!

Give these things a try! What's the worst thing that can happen, you sit down in a few years and perform that retrospect to notice those were the good old days?

As always thanks for tuning in, and that is your Daily Dose of Dapperness!
