This is really happening!

in #adventure7 years ago (edited)
About a month ago my fiance and I decided to quit our jobs, sell ALL of our stuff including our house to buy an RV and travel for a year or two. I wrote a article about our decision to do this about 3 weeks ago called *Screw it, we're doing it* and now I wanted to give everyone an update! We have now sold nearly all of our stuff, our bedroom set, our dining room table, we even sold our couch *today* so we are sitting on the floor for the next month! lol. I know it may seem a little pre-mature to sell big items like that but we posted it all for sale online and are letting the universe decide when everything sells, because we are ready to go.
The more stuff we sell and/or give away the lighter I feel and the more excited I get. I thought it would be hard to give away and sell the life I have created over the last 5 years with my fiance but we both have never felt so free as we do right now sitting on the floor in an empty house waiting to leave to Arizona to start our journey.

We don't really know why we are setting out to do this journey or where it will take us exactly, we just know we can't live in the rat race anymore. We want to try and live a simple life for a while to see what is truly important in life. We decided we can't keep selling hours of our lives (working) to buy crap we really don't need.

Life is so amazing and we feel people are always to busy working their lives away (to buy crap we dont need) to realize what they are actually missing out on. I'm not talking about Mansions and Mercedes, I'm talking about birds and beaches. Nature and being part of it is truly the most fulfilling thing in life. I know most people think this idea of ours sounds crazy but I know first hand that money does not make you happy, no matter how much you have! But being outside, feeling the wind and the sun on my body and doing what I want every single minute of every day is worth more than any amount of money!

So I will continue on this crazy journey of figuring out what life is all about and I hope people will join me. Our travels will be starting next month and I will be documenting as much as I can so people can experience our journey with us!

All the best!! Have fun and figure out what makes you sing with joy :)

Thank u so much for the kind words. I hope we do find that joy! ;)

You can make a choice and sacrifices for your happiness, your decision sound crazy but you got me. Even myself i wanted some simple life, appreciate life with guidance of God. Thanks for sharing!..Goodluck! May God bless you!!

Thank u so much! Im glad some people understand and appreciate our decision for a simpler life. We think people are whats truly great about this world, not things.

Beautiful post..we need to spend time with nature and enjoy some peace there..

I'm all for this as long as you are "prepped-out" with extra fuel, guns and ammo, etc. with tons of food. SHTF is coming pretty soon IMO!

BE SAFE!

I actually am a prepper! oddly enough lol. I decided to split my stock pile of all my extra beans and bullets (and silver) at a few different properties my family owns throughout the states just incase shit does hit the fan! You can never be to ready, the army taught me that. kinda ironic! thanks for looking out tho.. take care

Awesome Plan, now you are mobile and are already "Bugged Out" :D

Wow!! this is really an adventure!!.... you only figure out what you don't need when you get rid of it. ....Still, I'm a "want" person not "need" one.

Thanks, it really is an adventure! :)
My fiance was a want person too, but then she realized she wanted to be free in life more than she wanted to work for stuff. So if u want to change u can, its all perspective.

That's awesome! I'm so glad to see this. I just posted today on how glad I am we made our leap even though it's totally nuts sometimes! Oh, and thanks for all that sweetness for my daughter @sophieharling for her first post. She really appreciated it and is excited to get going on here.

Thanks, now ill have to go check out ur post to see what u have to say about that. Lol
And no problem, Im always happy to help :)

Very cool. I totaly understand your decision. Have a great start for your journey.

Thank u so much! I really appreciate the support!

I am both uber jealous and also a little terrified for you! Looking forward to the next update!

Thanks! Sounds exciting right!? No reason to be terrified tho ;) that is society trying to trick u into its chains! Worst case scenario for us is we end up back here workin 9-5. Thats truly terrifying! Lol

Awesome! I've done this before and it was amazing, I can totally relate to that "free" feeling you're having. It's a big decision but so worth making the sacrifice.

Looking forward to seeing how it unfolds for you guys!

Its always inspiring to hear other people have done this before.. how long did u travel? Where did u all go? What brought u back to "normal" living? Id love to hear more if u dont mind..

I talk about it a bit here, but basically bought a truck and lived in the back of it for about two years. I spent a lot of my time rafting on rivers in Washington State, did a roadtrip down the 101 and spent some time over in England.

The freedom is amazing. I'd still be living that way but ran out of funds. Now I'm working to build up another large stash so that I can go do it again but hopefully not have to come back this time!

Man, mad respect to you both for doing this. The last few months all i can think about is my amazing holiday in Bali and how i would love to just go and live there for the next few years, just sell everything i own (which isnt much) and go there with my computer and myself and just live out my days on a beach in the sun somewhere, cheap food, cheap living and just general better quality of life. Selling away our time the most precious thing we have, is just, i cant even think of a way to describe it. madness i suppose. working to make money and to make someone else even more money, its a terrible system and i applaud you greatly for what youre doing and hope to do the same one day.
cant wait to see updates :P

Thanks bro. I read your article about bali and you seem to have a real passion for that place and I don't blame you, it sound fucking epic there! I might even end up checking it out because of what you have wrote about it! So what is stopping you man? you only live once and you seem like a good hearted soul so I'm sure the universe would take good care of you if you just take that leap towards your dreams.. ;)
The things we regret most in life are the chances we never take, whats the worst case scenario? You end up exactly where you are now? You can always go home if things don't work out, but don't get stuck in the trap of life without even trying to reach your dreams!
Good luck

honestly the only thing really stopping me right now is my animals lol. I cant take them with me and i couldnt leave them behind so im planning it for the future for now :P

I totally understand that, we have two pitbulls that are like children to us. What kind of animals do you have? I saw a post about you did about your rabbit, but you could definitely take that with you lol. How far in the future are you thinking?

a cat and a rabbit haha, im thinking a 5 year plan at the moment, but im looking at holiday deals to go over there for a month and maybe look at possible business opportunities. nothing big but just something that would allow me to live comfortably, its cheap there so income would not need to be huge. If all else fails i may well follow your footsteps deck out a van and just travel around australia picking up random work where i can find it.
i resteemed this post btw, the more people that get out of the "rat race" the better and hopefully it inspires some others to do the same :P

If you deck out a van you could take your rabbit and cat with you. I think the freedom would give you the courage to go bigger after that. the problem with a 5 year plan is the 5 year part. that is a long time for stuff to go wrong or to make more excuses on why you shouldnt go. Humans don't plan to fail, they fail to plan. its hard to plan 5 years from now and stick to it. just go for it as soon as possible, youll notice the more you think and talk about it the easier it becomes and things start to fall in place. it all starts with an idea. manifest your destiny.
I really appreciate the resteem, I hope I can help inspire other people to take the leap and live their dreams and every resteem helps, so thank you kind sir. oh, I totally dig your dreads bro, Im working on growing out my hair to eventually have some!
Take care.

Very few people dare to dream and then follow it too. I appreciate that you are doing it. I understand you need guts and passion to kickstart but then afterwards everything falls into place.
When you talk about sitting on the floor with no furniture and all and feeling light, it reminds me of our international posting, we sold off everything and that moment I felt so light and wondered why do we love those materialistic things so much. After we had sold everything I felt that actually we don't need so many things to live and was enjoying with no strings attached. In India it is called moh-maya( illusion).
That is another thing that after shifting we again bought everything and was again into moh-maya. Lol!! Didn't have so much guts or may be passion to renunciate all those stuff.

Its always nice to hear other peoples experiences like this! What made u decide to do it? What made u decide to return to a "normal" lifestyle? Did u end up back in the same country or a different one? How long did u travel? Sorry bout all the questions but i love hearing the stories!

Renunciation just happened to be a byproduct of our move we never had it on our mind but in the process it surely gave a taste of the life we could have lived. After moving abroad for few years we are back to our home country. We have kids so it is neither in our mind nor have guts to do it.
In Hinduism a person is assigned duties according to their age and phase of life. It says there are four life stages: Brahmcharya(student), Grihasta(householder), Vanaprastha(retirement) and sannyasa(renunciation). So yeah I guess time has not come for us. But I am sure you will get the peace and true meaning of life.

That is very comforting to hear.. We have been learning more and more about buddhism as our spiritual journeys unfold. It is very interesting to hear u use these terms, i will have to look into them more.. thanks for all the knowledge and sharing ur experiences with me :)

I know a couple that did this. They did not buy an RV, but they are traveling the world. It's been about 2 years now and they are having a ball. I believe right now they are in Japan.

We are just starting with an rv becuase we want to start here in the states, eventually we plan to see the world if all goes right.. hopefully we will be as lucky as ur friends to continue to travel for multiple years to different continents.. they got something right :)

Good luck with all that. I sure wish it was something I could do. Who knows, it just might be in the not so far future.

I hope u do it man, life is to short to be a slave to society. U can do anything u want as long as u keep working towards it. Never stop thinking about what u want and u will make it come true. Manifest ur own destiny. I know it sounds crazy but it works my man. Goodluck making ur dreams come true. :)

re-steem.jpghello, @moderndayhippie

I wish you guys the best. I hear some parts of Mexico are pretty good places to live. The low cost of living is a definite draw for me. I think someday I will end up defecting from the U.S.. Hopely sooner than later.

It's just out of control around here. Taxes and inflation and I hate the cold weather.
