The best way to explore a place is to know it's People - A Short Blog

in #adventure7 years ago

Hello Everyone,

This is a short blog where I'll be detailing about my experience with people of a small town Kharsali, situated in Uttrakhand. The town is known as the second home to Goddess Yamuna. It is just 1 km from Janki Chatti from where the trek to Yamunotri starts. This small town is also famous for the oldest temple that was built by Pandavas.

Exploring this little town of Kharsali, I met some amazing kids, they showed me their town their way and helped me to interact with local people. The best thing was the way they looked at me as if they were seeing some alien( me with my riding gears ) 😂. They were so friendly that they made me play a local game * I don't remember the name * but it was something like hit and win. In this game you have a coin placed in a small pot hole and you need to hit that coin with another coin to win this game and if no one hits the target their is a next round. The winner takes the target along with his coin as the winning prize. I had an amazing time with these kids and learnt about their lifestyle as well.

The final good-bye.

During winters, when access to Yamunotri temple ceases, the Idol of Goddess Yamuna is kept here at Kharsali. This is the time when all of Yamunotri is covered under snow and snow might reach up to height of 4-5ft. The main business of people living here comes from the traffic/tourists that come to visit Yamunotri. They have horses and palkis with which they take the tourists till Yamunotri temple and charge around 600 for horse and 300 for a Palki.

The below image shows a local person taking back his horses to home and a dog that has a metal collar attached to his neck. I asked some local people about the reason of this metal collar strap and they told me something which I could instantly relate to. This collar strap helps in protecting our dogs from wild animals , Panthers , leopards to be specific.

Yamunotri is a very famous place among elder people as this place has religious importance. However, when I visited this place I came to know that this is a very underrated place among youngsters as compared to the natural beauty this place has to offer. This place has a lot of offBeat destinations to explore , a lot of interesting and never been to treks and a lot of interesting stories to hear.

I already decided that I'll come back to this place , explore this place and make this famous among youngsters to know how beautiful and under-explored place this is. There's a lot to explore in our country what we just need is to set our priorities straight, take time out to travel , explore and to know what this mother nature has got for us.

I'll keep uploading such posts wherein I try to describe my experience with a place to make it a little famous which would generate some business for the people living here, in this way I'll be giving the people of Kharsali a little help from my side for all the love they showered upon me when I was here.

Thank you for reading the whole article I hope you'd have liked it. I have also made a small video of my journey, find it on my channel on dtube.
