RE: New Money For Old Eyes?

in #advertising6 years ago

Ins't it a great selling point that Steem is a network without embeded advertising?
There is already a form of advertisement: bidbots. The trending page is full of advertised posts.
And werent SMTs supposed to enable targeted advertising in a way that would profit both parties?

Sort:

Well it is, but the coffers are running dry soo... this is an option.

The bots advertise posts, what about advertising something outside of Steem based on what you post/vote/comment?

Not sure SMT was going to do that directly, maybe a bi-product. And yeah, news is that SMT are no longer 'soon', and a bit more 'later'.

It is always risky to finance long term projects (steemit Inc, witness servers...) on a volatile/short term basis. That is literally how every financial crisis happens.
In my opinion Steem is affected by the overall market rather than intrinsic properties. Collateral damage of the crypto hype and bust.
The Steem price is either a temporary or a final problem. If it is a temporary one, I don't see how anybody would turn off the sweet $$$ once Steem reaches profitable prices for witnesses again.
But there definitely needs to be a solution to keep witnesses afloat in the meantime without compromising the long term selling points of the blockchain.
We can't expect that witnesses will offer their services at a constant loss.
I do understand that I'm announcing noble opinions without making practical suggestions.
As of yet I don't have any.

:)

I hear you, being a witness at 73 in the rankings is running us at a big loss each month right now.

Splitting the new money coming in from ads between the consumer, the app, and the infrastructure teams sounds like the best approach.

You have probably already seen it. I would like to point you to this:

By @dragosroua. His last scenario sounds appealing to me - as a method to bridge the profitability gap.
