I started my company april this year and we kept/ keep growing. We thought that people would be as passionate as we are and would deliver proper work. Well, it's not the case.
I had to fire one of our psychologists, he didn't do a thing. Was sitting at the office, doing nothing. Was disrespectful to me and my co-workers. But worst, also to our clients. For example: introducing him to clients was horrible, he was not listening to the stories, but instead playing with his phone while I was trying to introduce him. After several warnings (not my cup of tea), we choose to fire him (horrible!). Because he was also telling co-workers and clients he was using lots of drugs for fun, telling where he bought the stuff and so fort.
Then, our intern started with the 'hey girl' thing. We did not appreciate that, but maybe we made the fault to not set boundaries. So we decided to set up a meeting to explain our methods, but also to share our expectations towards them. We made appologies for not being clear about these boundaries.
Now, it's sort of working. But I really need advice to be a humanly boss. Because it's hard for me to be a tough one. What is a good balance. What is ok, what is not ok?
I remember corresponding with you a few
months ago about this. My advice as having hired and fired before is to be respectful but sturn and strong. You are the boss and it’s your business and your future foremost.
Yeah, exactly! But its soo hard. I have to learn a lot. But thanks again for your advice. I need to put our mission on number one. I need to learn not to please..
