Wakhan is a virgin district deep in the northeast of Afghanistan.
Few years back, National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) of Afghan government named this place as “Afghanistan’s Second National Park”. Prior to this, in 2009, Band-i-Amir of Bamyan received the title of “Afghanistan’s First National Park”.
This area is known as an intact place, not just in the country but across globe, according to information provided by NEPA.
Wakhan is also well-known for its Little Pamir and Great Pamir mountains and Kohe-i-Nohshakh which is has 7892 meter height and is one of the highest mountain peak in Afghanistan. These mountains feed Amu Darya or Amu River which is a major river in Central Asia.
Wakhan has rare animal species, like Marco Polo sheep, White tiger and some other uncommon species. But unfortunately some of them are going to be extinct and nonetheless, government had done nothing to solve it.
Wakhan is a tourist destination, that’s why government intends to invest and put due attention on this place.
Minor ethnic groups (Wakhani and Kyrgyz) are living at this district and unfortunately they are deprived from primary life facilities like hospital, school and so forth.
These people have been living here from long ago. They have their peculiar and independent culture which has maintained it from one generation to another.
